From friendly fire to Scientology to 9/11 pager data, these are some of the craziest discoveries from the WikiLeaks scandal!
1. Apache helicopter attacked journalists.
Wikileaks showed that U.S. Army Apache helicopters killed Reuters journalists Saeed Chmagh and Namir Noor-Eldeen in 2007. Why couldn't the Army tell the difference between a camera and a rocket launcher
2. Guantanamo Bay's standard operating procedures were released.
Official guidelines from this manual included notes that prisoners could be kept from seeing the Red Cross for up to four weeks. They also mentioned that toilet paper could be used as a special reward for good behavior in Camp Delta.
3. All eight of the secret bibles of the Church of Scientology were released.
Wikileaks revealed the secrets from Elron Hubbard's eight levels of church, including details about the dictator of the ancient galactic empire, Xenu.
4. Australia had been developing secret internet blacklist.
This was a comprehensive list of websites that the Australian government considered inappropriate for viewing by the general public. One of the creators of the list described the collection of websites as an "Encyclopedia of depravity."
5. A Trafigura health study revealed planned oil dumping into the ocean.
Wikileaks revealed that Trafigura, a multinational energy company, planned to dump oil processing waste into the waters off of the coast of Africa. The dumped oil products would have polluted the waters with sulfur, potentially causing skin irritation, ulcers, eye damage, stomach ailments, and perhaps even death.
6. A list of members of the radical British National Party (BNP) was revealed.
Members of the BNP are banned from some jobs in the U.K., but this list documented that there were members of this radical political organization in the police, military, media, medical, and education fields.
7. The contents of Sarah Palin's email account were uncovered.
It appears that Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin had been using a Yahoo email account to conduct official state business.
8. Pager text messages between government officials on 9/11 published.
More than half a million pager messages that were sent regarding the terrorist attacks on 9/11 were published. Wikileaks explained that the content of these messages helped to paint a more complete picture of the horrible events that occurred on that day.
9. A British Military document about stopping intelligence leaks was leaked.
How's that irony taste, ol' chaps? A manual entitled "the Defence Manual of Security" identified criminals, terrorists, foreign intelligence departments, and even journalists that could prove a risk to exposing British military secrets. Evidently, they missed someone.
10. Clinton campaign manager John Podesta's emails were leaked.
Wikileaks is beholden to no political party. The Podesta emails detailed many unflattering conversations from the heart of the Clinton campaign. The campaign never officially denied the authenticity of the emails, but rather focused on the fact that their contents were illegally stolen. This leak may have played a huge role in the results of the election.
