We've all been there before: the pickle jar is empty and then we toss out the remaining pickle juice into the wash basin or down the toilet (by the way, the latter is not such a bad idea, since it cleans the toilet). But when you take a look at this list, then you'll definitely find one or two more uses for pickle juice, which has many qualities.
#1 To soothe sunburn
Dunk a cotton ball into pickle juice and dab it onto the sunburn. The vinegar in the liquid helps alleviate the burning sensation.
#2 In a cocktail
It won't be an easy task to convince your guests to drink a pickle cocktail. But this simple recipe has won over more than just one person: Take a mixer and throw in some ice along with a shot of vodka and 2 shots of pickle juice. Shake well and then fill up a martini glass. Place a little pickle in the glass and drink up! And please remember to drink responsibly.
#3 Against hangovers
After a party with a lot of alcohol, your body is probably dehydrated and a painful hangover is on its way. Before you go sleep again, drink a little pickle juice and you'll see (and feel) that you're doing better the next day.
#4 To prevent cramps and muscle aches
Many trainers recommend that you drink 1/4 glass pickle juice (and of course water) after each workout to refresh your body.
#5 Against acid reflux
Cucumbers are often pickled in a mix of vinegar and honey. Both of these ingredients are particularly good for your stomach. A little slurp of this acidic mixture before eating can help prevent stomach aches.
#6 Against colds and sore throats
If the first symptoms appear, swallow a spoon of pickle juice. The vinegar is exactly as effective as cough syrup and much more natural.
#7 To cook
You can use pickle juice in your salad dressing as a replacement for vinegar or mix it with yogurt to create a creamy salad dressing for green salad, egg salad, fish or potatoes. Some also use pickle juice to marinate meat so it becomes more tender. You can also use pickle juice to poach fish to make it even tastier.
#8 To keep food fresh
If you have eaten all your pickles, then place hard-boiled eggs, onions or garlic into the jar with the leftover pickle juice to give these foods a fine note and to make them last longer. This trick also works with canned vegetables such as tomatoes, green beans and artichokes.
#9 To clean copper objects
You just have to put a little pickle juice on a sponge and rub down your copper objects to make them shine again.
#10 To use as a fertilizer and weed killer
That sounds a bit strange but pickle juice is very useful in both cases. For plants such as lilies, primroses or lupins, which love acidic soil, pickle juice works well as a fertilizer.
Weeds in your garden (thistles or nettles) can be watered with pickle juice and they will go away.
