We are all well aware that the Duggar family has some seriously strict guidelines when it comes to what they expect from their family members. Both Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar set out clear expectations for their children. Even though the family thinks that they are transparent when it comes down to their views of how the world should work, their set of "family rules" seen very questionable to outsiders.
According to the family, they are not allowed to engage in any form of affection before they are married. They are also not allowed to dance or drink or disobey their husbands. Divorce is also out of the question even if of the partners has done something incredibly wrong.
Josh Duggar's wife, Anna, knows these rules all too well. After things settled down because of his many scandals that came to light in 2015, the world was shocked that Anna did not take the kids and leave Josh. Not only did she stay, but the two had another baby after he returned from rehab. Her commitment to the family has seriously been tested, especially after you learn the length of control Josh has over his wife and family.
Divorce Is Not An Option
Even if your husband has done you wrong so many times by cheating on your or humiliating you, leaving is not an option in the Duggar family. All Duggar wives are aware that when they take those vows, they are stuck in the relationship no matter what. They won't even discuss divorce in the household. That means, even though Josh was caught cheating on Anna using an Ashley Madison account, she has to continue to stick by him and their family.
Be Ready To "Perform" When Your Husband Wants It
Thinking about "having a headache" to get out of sex? Not in this house. As the wife of Josh Duggar, Anna has to be ready to satisfy her husband whenever the mood strikes him, even if she is not in the mood. The Duggars believe that a woman should make herself available at any given moment.
"Anyone can fix him lunch, but only one person can meet that physical need of love that he has, and you always need to be available when he calls," Michelle Duggar said.
Cannot Hang Out With Unwed Mothers
Josh has total control over who Anna is friends with and who she spends time with beyond their family, and that cannot include any unwed mothers. At one point, Michelle and Jim Bob refused to allow their daughter Jill help Susanna Keller, Anna's sister because they did not want to expose Jill to an unwed mother. Anna and her sister are really close. It makes us wonder if Josh allows Anna to spend time with her.
Josh Controls The Money
We all know that the Duggars are a frugal family since they have so many mouths to feed with Josh being the only one who works. Their budget is incredibly tight. Whenever Anna wishes to purchase something, she has to ask Josh for permission as if she were a child and not his wife.
Not Allowed To Wear Pants
All in the name of modesty, none of the female members of the Duggar family are allowed to wear pants. You can often find them wearing long denim skirts. It is a Duggar family rules that goes way back to before Michelle even starting having kids. It is a rule that Josh insists Anna goes by. In contrast, there are no rules regarding what the male members of the Duggar family can wear.
The Beach Is Off-Limits
No matter how hot it is outside, the Duggars are banned from going to the beach. It is not just because they do not want their women wearing bathing suits, it is also to avoid distracting the men of the family.
"It’s just too hard for the guys to try and keep their eyes averted," according to Michelle.
So, if Anna wants to catch some sun, she has to do it in her own back yard.
No Talking To Men
Duggar women are only allowed to have two men in their lives, their father and their husband. They are not allowed to have any form of relationship with any other male, nor can they text someone of the opposite sex. Let the Duggars tell it, temptation is everywhere, so the women are expected to stay away from men altogether. This is probably why the women are not allowed to work outside of the home.
Dancing Is Not Allowed
No Duggar is allowed to dance. It does not matter if your favorite song comes on the radio, you better not bust a move. This rule came about because Michelle thinks that dancing evokes sensual feelings that do not line up with their conservative beliefs.
Kids Can't Play Co-Ed Games
While this rule seems kind of weird, it can be understood especially with Josh Duggar's history with his sisters when he was a teen. Michelle instituted the rule that they kids are not allowed to play co-ed hide and seek.
No Co-Ed Babysitting
Co-ed babysitting is not allowed either. Michelle and Jim Bob have banned the family from babysitting kids of the opposite sex. Only the older Duggar boys can watch the younger boys and vice versa for the girls.
No Television
There is no Netflix and chill at the Duggar house. Even though the family is reality TV stars, the family is not allowed to watch television. They do this in order to block the children from outside influences.
Josh Controls Her Social Media
No Duggar is allowed to have a social media account until after they are married. The control then shifts from the parents to their husbands, which means Josh has full control over Anna's social media accounts.
