17-Year-Old Films Himself Raping A 1-Year-Old Child, Won't Get Prison Time

In July, Kraigen Grooms, 19, pleaded guilty to one county of Engaging in a Lascivious Act with a Child. Wapello County Attorney Gary Oldenburger told KTVO that Grooms, aka Kraigen Simmers, was sentenced on that charge on Monday.

#1 Guilty

19-year-old Kraigen Grooms is from Ottumwa, Iowa. He had plead guilty to raping a one-year-old child. He has been in prison for over eight hundred days, and has now been sentenced by Judge Myron Gookin in the Wapello County Courthouse to serve a 10 year suspended prison sentence.

#2 GPS Monitoring

After he plead guilty, Grooms was released from jail. Since then, he has been subject to GPS monitoring.

#3 Skype

Grooms was 17 years old in 2014 when he was arrested by federal authorities, and charged of sexually assaulting a one-year-old child and filming the assault. He didn't know he was being filmed at the time of the incidenthe was talked into doing it by two men (one in Ireland, one in New Orleans) involved in child pornography that posed as a female the same age as Grooms. They filmed it via Skype.

#4 Initial Charge

His initial charge was Sexual Abuse in the 2nd degree, a class B felony which could have carried a sentence of up to 25 years imprisonment.

#5 Probation And Treatment

He will be on probation for five years, and will be supervised on parole for life as a registered sex offender. Grooms underwent multiple psychological examinations and he must complete the Sex Offender Treatment Program.
