A 25-year-old man decided that taking the best possible selfie was worth more to him than his life. The man — from a city called Warangal in south India — , was on the train tracks along with some of his friends when the accident took place.

Dramatic video shows a man, named as Shiva, standing by the tracks in the Lingampally area of Hyderabad, India, and smiling at his smartphone camera. Moments later, a train smashes in to him from behind, sending him flying before the screen goes blank. As the train comes closer, someone is heard warning him. However, he ignores the warning and is heard saying "one minute".
Shiva was a gym trainer who miraculously survived the shocking accident which was captured on footage. Shiva survived the collision despite suffering head injuries. Shiva may have survived the accident but he was booked under railway laws.

The railway authorities have described the incident as reckless and careless. He seems oblivious to the danger and smiles as he apparently misjudges the speed of the approaching Multi-Modal Transport System train. While the camera stops showing images, the sound of people rushing to the scene can be heard in the back ground. According to NDTV, some 60 per cent of the world's selfie deaths between March 2014 and September 2016 took place in India.

According to the Bharatnagar Railway Protection Inspector Sudhakar Rao, "He was booked and penalized ₹500. Despite the severity of the impact in the video, he escaped largely unhurt as the locopilot applied the emergency brakes and slowed the train."
The official also stated that it amounts to trespassing on railway property which is a punishable offense by law. It is best for everyone to be aware of their surroundings when out and about versus being involved in your phone.

Shiva's friends said he misjudged the impact of the train's speed and the wind.
Someone said, "Such a foolish n mad guy this person is, a man severely injured when a MMTS train hit him in Lingampally #Hyderabad while taking selfie video, incident happened 3 days back n this person admitted in hospital"
Another commented, "Crazily stupid Selfie! Youth hit by speeding train while he was attempting a selfie video, admitted into hospital in serious condition".
Another said, "Height of Selfie obsession! Dramatic Selfie video of a young boy who escaped with Minor injuries after being hit by MMTS train in Hyderabad. Railway police registers case."
