For the past four years, this gentle-looking sweet pit bull Blue Dozer has proved to be more than just a companion for his dear friend OJ- a 12-year-old dachshund. Old and blind, the senior dog put all his trust in his friend, because he’s been guiding him through the world.

Time, again and again, Blue Dozer has proven to the world that he is here to stay by his friend's side eternally. Unfortunately, their owner lost her home and the two animals ended up on the streets. Not being able to take care of her sweet animals, the owner decided to surrender them to a local shelter in Richmond, hoping they’ll find a warm home. Anyway, she begged the staff there to keep them together.

“She said they had been living in her car for a while and she had been through some other personal things recently,” Christie Chipps Peters, director of the Richmond Animal Care and Control explained for The Dodo. “All she wanted was to find them a new home together!”

Soon Christie and the other volunteers realized by the owner insisted on two animals living together.

Because the senior dog was blind, his loyal buddy became his comfort and his eyes to the world. Not only this but the shelter was left speechless as to how gentle and kind Blue was to his blind friend. Therefore, everyone knew it won’t take too long for someone to show interest in these two lovely dogs.

“We don’t see a combination like this very often,” Peters said . “It’s so comical and sweet. Blue is like this super tough muscular guy, then OJ is a teeny tiny dachshund. Seeing them together is super cute. “They’ve been best pals for years, so they have this understanding of sticking by each other. When we’d go outside, it was like OJ was Blue’s little shadow.”

It was in their sheer luck that only a few days after coming to the shelter, someone volunteered to adopt both the friends.

The condition was to get them both adopted together. However, only a few days later, something terrible happened.

Days after the dogs left the shelter to their new home, the poor OJ was found on the side of the road, all by himself. Most likely, he just got dumped by his new owners!

It was in their luck that the two friends were reunited back at the shelter, and this time, they won’t be separated! Even though their drama is far from ending, one thing is certain, Blue and OJ share a truly remarkable bond!

“We very much appreciate the outpouring of community support,” the shelter wrote in a statement. “The only thing that matters is these sweet dogs get to stay together — and in the end that’s what we have … We will not be doing anything with OJ and Blue Dozer in the next few days other than snuggling them together.”
