#1 She Caught Her Husband Cheating

When Edith believed her husband Jake was cheating on her, she confronted him. He admitted that he had been secretly having an affair with his younger secretary for several years. His new girlfriend wanted to live with Jake in his multimillion-dollar North Carolina home so Jake got a good lawyer who was expensive and ruthless.

#2 He Won The House In The Divorce

Jake won the house the couple had shared together for 22 years in the divorce settlement. The decree allowed Edith just three days to vacate her home, One the first day she packed her belongings, taking everything she thought was her own. On the second day, she called the movers and waited while they transported all of her furnishings to her new, one bedroom apartment.

And then on the third day, she decided to simply relax and take one last look at the house she helped build and make a home. While enjoying her delicious seafood meal she had a scathingly brilliant idea. She would just let things go and erase the entire marriage from her mind and heart, knowing that things would eventually turn her way. When she was finished enjoying the dinner, she went to all the rooms and stuffed the shrimp leftovers, dipped in caviar, inside all of the curtain rods. She placed the caps back on the curtain and drapery rods then she cleaned up the kitchen and left for her new apartment.

#5 It Got Stinky Pretty Fast

By the end of that week, Jake moved his new girlfriend into his home, and things were going beautifully for the new couple, at first. Withing five days the paradise mansion turned pretty sour. It began to smell everywhere in the house. The smell became so bad that Jake believed something had probably crawled into the walls and died.

#6 The New Girl Threatens To Leave

The new galpal could not handle the odor, it was everywhere. She became unable to sleep, eat, or even enter certain areas of the 14 room mansion. The lingering smell was so upsetting that she told Jake she would have to leave his house if he couldn't figure out what the smell was and fix it.

#7 Nothing Seemed To Combat That Foul Odor

They tried everything cleaning, wiping, and vacuuming. They checked the air conditioning, thinking there may have been a dead mouse or rat inside. The rugs were steam cleaned twice and they hung up air fresheners everywhere. They even had exterminators came to drop the chemical death sentence on any possible vermin. But Nothing helped. The stench just got worse.

As the stink got worse, family and friends stopped coming by to visit, and even the gardener, handyman, and maid quit their jobs. The couple began spending nights in a nearby hotel to try and escape the disgusting and unidentifiable smell. Ultimately, the couple could no longer withstand the odor and decided to find a new home.

Selling the house was not easy. No one wanted to buy the house and each time they held an 'open house' the possible buyer's list grew smaller and smaller. Even after the price was cut in half after one month on the market, nobody showed up to view the house. Rumors of the "stinkhouse" began to spread in the area. Eventually, even realtors wanted nothing to do with the house. One realtor hired three different extermination companies to try and figure out the stench, but the last two refused to enter the building because it was unhealthy.

#10 Edith Offers To Buy Back Her Own House

After almost a full year, Jake had to take out a loan to buy a new house. Then one day his ex-wife called him and asked him how he was doing. He proceeded to complain about his ordeal with the house and how he had to move out. She listened to his story politely. Then she told him how she missed the house and would be ready to lower his alimony payments if he would give her the house back.

Jake believed that Edith had no idea how horrible the smell really was, so he agreed under the condition that she sign the agreement on the same day. The two met at her attorney's office within hours and with the contract signed, she bought the house for a tenth of its actual worth. After a couple of hours, everything was settled fair and square. She even got him to pay for any upkeep for a full 2 years in the deal.
