Alisha Lehmann is the latest player to experience issues with the 'wet look' Aston Villa uniform this season.

Following complaints about how wet the shirts become during matches, reports surfaced last month that the Midlands club was trying to cancel its multi-year agreement with kit manufacturers Castore early.

Players argued that the tops' discomfort and weight were impeding their ability to perform well.

According to reports, the Aston Villa women's team was "dreading" wearing the uniform when they returned to WSL play this weekend.

And as usual, the sticky jerseys caused a stir when Lehmann had a minor fashion mishap right before the game.

The skin-tight top allowed fans to clearly see the blonde forward's nipples, a problem that the team's male players have also encountered this season.

Speaking ahead of kick-off, Aston Villa Women's boss Carla Ward said:

"It's up to the football club's legal team and Castore to discuss that and deal with that.

It's something I've tried to completely ignore as difficult as that is. "

"The football club are in full control of that.

They've been excellent with us, myself and the players around it."

Speaking to BBC Newsbeat last month, football commentator Jacqui Oatley said of Villa's women's team:

"They've got four TV games coming up. Normally they'd absolutely relish those games and look forward to them."

"But they're actually dreading it because they're really conscious about how they're going to look in this wet, clingy kit - for obvious reasons."

"You can imagine, as a female athlete, you have plenty enough to think about just being the best you can be on the football field without thinking about getting sweaty and your kit clinging to you.

Both from a performance aspect as it is with the men but also from an aesthetic aspect."

"And, as we know, women are different specimens when it comes to our bodies and it can really affect us and how we perform if we're constantly thinking about how we look, or a top might be clinging to our breasts and also our body shapes."

"These are genuine issues for women which you would have thought somebody would have thought through before they released this kit. But it seems perhaps that wasn't the case, because they didn't think about it for the men so I'm quite sure they won't have thought about it for the women."

Lehmann has more than 15 million Instagram followers, many of whom have nicknamed her the sexiest football player in the entire world.

She joined Villa in 2021 after a brief loan to Everton, having previously been at West Ham.
