‘Another white girl tryna be racially ambiguous’: White Tiktoker Accused Of Blackfishing
Robyn Jordan Warren is a TikTok influencer who was called out in the comments for being “another white girl tryna be racially ambiguous"
Warren decided to stitch that comment and made a response video with the caption, “or am I just naturally blessed and you don’t like it? 😌”
Warren who has fuller lips and loose curls admitted that she had gotten filler to achieve that effect but also had nautrally larger lips.
‘Blackfishing’ is a term that refers to the act of altering skin colour and features to look darker, racially ambiguous, or as close to black as possible. This might include curls, fake tan, using cultural vernacular, or getting butt fillers.
Wanna Thompson who coined the term says,
“What makes this ‘phenomenon’ alarming is that these women have the luxury of selecting which aspects they want to emulate without fully dealing with the consequences of Blackness,”
One user made a burner account to anonymously share pictures of Warren as a child to show how pale her natural skin was but Warren’s mother came to her defence saying that the pictures weren’t of her daughter.
“Dur! Wrong person! That’s not my daughter! 😂😂😂 Ooh how embarrassing for you. 😂😂😂”
In another picture, Warren showed how her natural tan looked against her non-tanned skin showing just stark the contrast was.
This has commenters divided as to whether a natural tan would be considered blackfishing considering that her natural skin was definitely on the paler side but had not been achieved through the use of fake tans or procedures.
Some of her earlier videos also show her as having lighter skin than her current ones.
