#1 Racial Discrimination Is A Common Issue In America

Racial discrimination on the basis of skin color is something that is not new for black Americans. They have been dealing with this absurdness for as long as they can remember, being treated as thieves or looked down upon just because of their skin tone has become part of their lives. You will find such form of discrimination everywhere, whether it is a hospital, a mall, a grocery store or even your local Walmart. Respectable brands such as H&M even have been accused of promoting their products based on racial discrimination.

#2 Blatant Racial Discrimination

But apparently, there is always a limit to suppression and this Southern California mom Essie Grundy is not having any of it and is suing Walmart for their pathetic customer service and blatant racial discrimination done on beauty products for black women where Essie claims all the black products for African American were kept in anti-theft casings, "When I walked down the aisle and saw that Walmart had placed all of the African-American hair and skin products under lock and key, I had to pause. I was in shock."'

#3 Treated Like A Theif

At a news conference with her women's rights lawyer Gloria Allred, Essie said, "I felt that I was being treated as a person who might be a thief, even though I have no criminal history. I never want my children, or anyone else’s children, to experience what I did at Walmart that day."

#4 Walmart Should Sincerely Apologize For Their Unethical Behavior

Gloria says, "It perpetuates a racial stereotype that African-Americans are thieves." Talking about her client, Gloria says Essie wants Walmart to apologize for their unethical behavior and should undo their additional security around ethnic cosmetic products.

Following Essie's story on Twitter which became viral overnight and received support from everyone, there were also people who shared pictures of African-American products locked up in cases in other Walmart stores including some retail stores.

#5 An Official Statement Released

Walmart has issued an official statement, defending their actions, "We’re sensitive to this situation and also understand, like other retailers, that some products such as electronics, automotive, cosmetics, and other personal care products are subject to additional security. Those determinations are made on a store-by-store basis using data supporting the need for the heightened measures. We take this situation seriously and look forward to addressing it with the court."
