A 15-year-old boy ended up travelling from Bangladesh to Malaysia after a game of hide and seek went badly wrong. The boy chose a shipping container as a hiding spot while playing hide & seek with his friends. He fell asleep & was found 6 days later in a Malaysian port.
Boy Who Hid In Container During Game Of Hide And Seek Is Found In Another Country Six Days Later
Finding a decent hiding spot is key to winning at hide and seek, and this teen must have thought he’d nailed it when he found an empty shipping container to hide inside. But it ended in terror when his chosen hiding spot accidentally sent him on a six-day ocean voyage.
A 15-year-old boy was found exhausted but safe after falling asleep in a shipping container and waking up six days later 2,000 miles from where he started. The young boy hid in the container during a game of hide and seek with friends in Chittagong, Bangladesh, on 11 January.
After falling asleep, he was locked in the container and sailed with the Integra container ship across the Indian Ocean the next day. He was discovered after a member of Malaysian port staff heard knocking on one of the containers in Port Klang nearly a week later, on 17 January, exhausted, dehydrated and crying for food.
The boy, identified only as Fahim, was found with a fever and taken to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital nearby for treatment, where his condition has since been described as stable.
The Marine Police Force, local immigration department, and health department came to investigate. Fahim was filmed getting out of the crate surrounded by staff and local authorities. In the video, he is clearly dehydrated and confused, and unable to speak the local language.
He talks to locals before being placed on a stretcher, scratching, and covered with a blanket. Fahim is then taken to the hospital, where he remains for now. Authorities at first feared Fahim was the victim of human trafficking, but soon managed to communicate with the boy, who is making a recovery.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Cha Hoong Fong said: 'There was no foul play in the incident.'
Minister of Home Affairs Saifuddin Nasution bin Ismail told local media: 'When the vessel arrived at West Port and the container was unloaded, authorities found the boy inside.
'He is the only one found inside the container. A police report has been lodged and the boy, who has a fever, was taken for a medical examination.
'We are now in the process of repatriating him.
'We are not linking this to human trafficking because the initial investigation found that he entered the container, fell asleep, and (was transported to) Malaysia.'
“The process for him to be sent home (repatriated) was made according to legal channels,” the country's Home Minister added.
