Charlie Sheen has spoken openly about a hidden part of his past, admitting that he slept with men during a period of his life marked by chaos and addiction. These revelations come in his upcoming book and a two-part Netflix documentary that pulls no punches in exploring his story.

Now 60, Sheen explained that he had been with many women over the years, but at one point he decided to, as he put it, 'flip the menu over' and try something different. It was during this time that he began experimenting beyond what people expected of him.

In both the book and documentary, Sheen makes it clear that he refuses to 'run from [his] past' or 'let it own [him]'. Instead, he insists on facing it directly and letting the truth be told on his own terms.

The new book and Netflix project will focus heavily on some of the most controversial parts of Sheen’s life. This includes not only his sexual experiences but also his long and very public battle with addiction that shaped much of his career and personal reputation.

During the film, Sheen is asked directly about his past encounters with men, and he’s pressed on how it feels to finally discuss something that he kept private for so many years. For him, answering openly seemed like a weight being lifted off his shoulders.

When asked to sum up what it felt like to finally be honest about this chapter of his life, Sheen didn’t hesitate to give a blunt one-word response.

"Liberating. It's f***ing liberating ... [to] just talk about stuff," he said.

"It's like a train didn't come through the side of the restaurant. A f***ing piano didn't fall out of the sky. No one ran into the room and shot me."

He went on to explain that it was during his heavy crack use that he first began sleeping with men, showing how deeply his substance abuse was tied to that period of experimentation.

Appearing on Good Morning America, Sheen described the moment of realization: "That's what started it. That's where it was born, or sparked."

"And in whatever chunks of time that I was off the pipe, trying to navigate that, trying to come to terms with it — "Where did that come from? … Why did that happen?" — and then just finally being like, 'So what?' " He admitted that some of those moments felt strange and confusing, yet they were part of his reality at the time.

"A lot of it was f***ing fun. And life goes on."

Eventually, Sheen contracted HIV, a diagnosis he kept private for years out of fear of public backlash and personal consequences. For a long time, he worked hard to keep it hidden, but the secret brought its own challenges.

He explained that guests who stayed over would sometimes notice his medication and then threaten to expose him unless he paid them. These situations left him vulnerable and forced him into paying money just to protect his privacy.

In 2015, however, Sheen chose to stop hiding. He went on the Today Show and revealed publicly that he was HIV positive, saying at the time: "I just need to be free of that and then see how the world feels if people know that stuff."

He later added: "I do know for a fact that I never passed it on."

Thanks to advances in medicine, HIV can now be managed to the point where the virus becomes undetectable and cannot be passed on, something Sheen has stressed while talking about his journey.

The Netflix documentary, titled aka Charlie Sheen, is set to premiere on September 10 and promises to give viewers a raw and unfiltered look at his past, his struggles, and the lessons he has carried into the present.
