#1 Pigs Get Worked Out

Huang Demin, from Ningxiang County, believes that incorporating a fitness routine for his pigs will make them taste better. That is why he has set up a 10-foot platform on his farm and has been forcing his pigs to dive since 2012.

#2 Taking The Plunge

Every single day, Huang brings his pigs from his farm to the wooden platform he built at the Ningxiang County pond. He forces the pigs to the top, where they must dive off. He then lets them swim around for awhile to get exercise.

#3 A Good Swim

He believes that swimming improves the pigs' immune system and provides exercise which adds to the quality and taste of the pork. He said that the pigs also seem to enjoy swimming, though they don't like the dive.

#4 They Work Out The Eat Healthy Food

He claims the swim boosts the pig's immune system and also makes them hungrier. The more they work out, the more their appetite increases. He sometimes makes them dive and swim 30 times each day.

#5 Less Fat And More Pork

Huang said the practice was both beneficial for him and the pigs. Since they are active, the fat doesn't build too much. The good mix of lean meat and fats makes their value go sky-high, selling at prices three times higher than your regular hog.

#6 Experts Agree On This Routine

Huang's practice is backed up and featured in a country magazine with the article pointing out, "A pig that eats lots of fresh greens and gets plenty of exercises will have more muscle and less fat than a pig standing in a pig sty eating high carbohydrate grains all day."

#7 They Don't Require Antibiotics Or Hormones

Pigs that get regular exercise are healthier than those that remain sedentary. Therefore, his pigs rarely ever get sick. There is no need for them to take antibiotics or any other chemicals or hormones.

However, some animal rights activists are asking, "what's the point?" if he is just killing the healthy pigs for meat anyway. Most agree, however, that the lack of any growth hormones is a big plus for meat lovers.

#8 China Is The Leader In Exporting Of Pork Products

China doesn't have a good reputation for its pork products, despite the fact that they raise and sell over 66% of the entire world's pigs. Perhaps other farmers can learn some tings from Huang Demin and his fitness routine for his pigs. Their pigs will be healthier and they will make more money selling healthier pigs to consumers.

The country is always found with swine flu, H1N1, and huge meat recalls are costly for both the buyers and farmers.
