Churchgoers have been applauded for rescuing two young girls from being taken hostage after one of the kids mouthed "help me."

After they left a restaurant in Tampa, Florida, the two victims, both under the age of 12, were reportedly targeted by David Daniels.

On Sunday night, Daniels contacted the couple and promised to "supervise" them as they walked home.

According to reports, the creepy encounter intensified after the 37-year-old repeatedly smacked one of the females in the head while following them.

The girls reportedly jumped on their bikes and rode to a neighboring church to summon assistance.

Daniels allegedly followed the girls inside the place of worship and claimed to be their father, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

According to Fox13, concerned eyewitnesses claim he put one of the girls in a headlock.

One woman said: “One of the little girls was mouthing to me, ‘Please help me, this is not my dad.

“He was kind of talking over her, right behind her, putting his arm around her neck and saying something in her ear, saying, ‘We just moved here, we just want to see how we can help do whatever you’re doing.'"
