Tanner Broadwell and Nikki Walsh started their adventure on a 28-foot sailboat a week ago, setting off from the marina in Tarpon Springs.
However, emergency services were called following reports of a capsized pontoon in the Gulf of Mexico close to Madeira Beach.
Nearly a year ago the couple decided that they were tired of working.
"How can we live our lives when we’re working most of the day and you have to pay so much just to live?" Ms. Walsh said to the New York Post.
"Most of the work you do goes to your home. There has to be another option," she added.
The couple their pooch, set sail to conquer the seven seas. Or
so they thought.
While sailing, their boat struck an object and immediately began to take on water.
Walsh said:
"I’m just standing there in awe. I just lost everything I ever owned. I see my things floating away and I can’t get to them."
Speaking to the Tampa Bay Times, Mr. Broadwell said:
"I sold everything I had to do this and I lost everything in a matter of 20 minutes. I'm not going to give up now, I'm going to get another boat down the road. ‘We can’t just give up on our dreams."
