Abusing a romantic partner is never a good way to earn the respect of anyone around you; as a matter of fact, you're more likely to see looks of disgust from most were you to proudly exclaim how you've beaten on an ex. That's why I'll never be able to understand exactly why anyone could ever think it's acceptable.

You can trade heated words all day and not many would bat an eye aside from telling you you're in a bad relationship, but the moment you turn to physical violence you've lost them. One Missouri man had more than just the state looking for him and it's all thanks to a concerned father well, that and his actions.

Chelsea Simmons is fortunate to be alive after her boyfriend brutally beat her in 2013. In fact, the beating was so severe that Chelsea lost her vision in one of her eyes. Doctors state that Simmons was just minutes from death and would most likely have to contend with the pain from the tragedy for quite a while.

Simmons came home to her father one day with her eye swollen shut. She'd been beaten and nearly choked to death by her 27-year-old boyfriend Cedric Powe, who hadn't let it stop there. Not only did he choke her to the point of her passing out, but he also woke her up and then repeated the process, and any medical professional will tell you that's not good. Once Simmons was out of Powe's grip, he fled, presumably somewhere in the south side of St. Louis, and managed to evade capture for a while.

Also known as Moe by friends, Cedric Powe allegedly moved to the south side of St. Louis after the beating. The warrant charges allege that Powe took considerable steps towards first-degree murder or causing great bodily harm by choking his girlfriend. The aggravated domestic battery charge alleges that Powe punched and kicked Simmons. Simmons' stepmother went on to say, "He needs to be caught so that this doesn't happen to anyone else, and I don't have to worry about it happening to her ever again." Medical professionals say it's a miracle she survived.

Knowing the trouble the police would have finding Powe, Simmons' father Mark Zack decided to put out a search party of his own in the only way he knew would speak to people with cash. Zack put a $500 bounty on Powe's head. Even with the bounty it still took over almost 5 months to locate the lowlife. Powe was finally captured by St. Louis, Mo., police in April 2014 and extradited back to Illinois to face charges.

Powe has a long history of run-ins with the law. In 2008 Powe was charged with domestic battery and obstruction of justice.

He pleaded guilty to the obstruction of justice charge and was sentenced to one year of imprisonment. However, because of his guilty plea, the domestic battery charge was dismissed. On Dec. 27, 2013, Simmons filed a restraining order against Powe, but Powe had a history of violating restraining orders, including two instances in 2008 and 2009. In April 2015, he was given the maximum sentence of 14 years in jail for aggravated domestic battery.

Powe may be off the streets now but, unfortunately for Simmons, her final encounter with Powe left her terrified and damaged for the rest of her life.
