Will Russell was practically a kid himself when he had a baby girl. Facing a dangerous alcohol addiction, Will was unable to provide baby Amy with the care she needed. So, he put her up for adoption shortly after she was born.

Years passed, and Will found himself drawn to the Phoenix Rescue Mission, an organization that provides “Christ-centered, life-transforming solutions to persons facing hunger and homelessness.” He started as a volunteer and transitioned to a full-time position in the ministry.

By July 2013, Amy was working hard to track down her biological family. Social media connected her with one of her nine siblings, and ultimately, Will’s phone number. She was nervous and anxious about calling her dad, but mustered up the strength.
After 24 years of no contact, Will received the call with a completely open heart, and told her everything was going to be okay.

The father-daughter duo met for breakfast the next morning. He told Amy all about his struggles with alcohol abuse, and how his life took a downward spiral during his twenties. He told her he had his last drink in 2004, then went on to become a pastor who helps others manage and overcome addiction.
After a long and meaningful conversation, Will told Amy he had to leave, as he was heading to serve food at the Phoenix Rescue Mission. Amy was stunned — and the reason will leave you speechless, too.
