What a prankster!

This teenager sent American Air a tweet pretending to be a girl from Afghanistan saying she was going to do something big on June 1st. American Air was not impressed and took the threat very seriously. She pleaded with the airlines to not tell her parents about her disturbing lapse in judgment. She ended up having to turn herself into police and got charged with posting a false or alarming announcement.

Assassination

Back in September 2012, Donte Jamar Sims, who was 21 at the time, thought that tweeting about assassinating Presiden Obama with "that Lee Harvey Oswald swagg" was a good idea. Even though he apologized to the court, he spent six months in jail for making a death threat to the president.

Game Over

This 18-year-old, Justin Carter, thought it would be cool to say he would "shoot up a kindergarten" after a heated discussion with another gamer while playing League of Legends. Carter said he was just being sarcastic, but the authorities did not find him to be amusing or smart, for that matter.

I hate it when a plan doesn’t come together.

David Voelkert had a vindictive ex-wife who wanted to get him in trouble with the law because she was bitter after their divorce. She created a fake Facebook account of a teenage girl and tried to get him to admit to some weird things. He did, but only because he figured out her game. He had to spend some time in jail while the police sorted everything out, but they ended up proving he was innocent.

Periscope fail

This stupid chick decided to live stream her drunken drive home on Periscope. She told her followers that she wondered if she would get busted for DUI. She did. One of her followers alerted the police. They caught her driving with a flat tire driving into curbs. She received a year of probation and community service on top of getting her license revoked for six months.

All of these criminals are just plain idiots. Some of these problems would not be around if it were not for social media, but it has also proven to be helpful in order to weed out the herd. Stupid people tend to do a good job of telling on themselves. Do you know of any stories like these?
