In the vast world of viral videos, every now and then, a gem emerges that captures the imagination of millions.

Recently, a comical and unexpected moment unfolded in the natural world when a video went viral featuring a seal engaging in an amusing encounter with a man.

Over the weekend, a man kayaking off the coast of Kaikōura, New Zealand, received an unexpected slap to the face from a seal wielding an octopus. The seal had been engaged in a playful tussle with the octopus in the water nearby.

Suddenly and without warning, the seal playfully used the octopus to deliver a surprise slap to the man's face. Describing the encounter as "weird," the man became an unwitting participant in a memorable and amusing wildlife interaction.

“We were just sitting out in the middle of the ocean and then this huge male seal appeared with an octopus and he was thrashing him about for ages,” Kyle Mulinder told Seven News.

Given his position at GoPro, it's highly unlikely that Kyle has ever experienced the unique occurrence of being playfully slapped by a seal wielding an octopus.

“He thrashed it in mid fight and my face happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time,” he recalled. “I was like ‘Mate, what just happened?’ It was weird because it happened so fast but I could feel all the hard parts of the octopus on my face.”

The video depicting the seal's slap, which was posted on Instagram this week, has quickly accumulated thousands of views. While the majority of reactions are typical and include comments like "This is too epic" and "What an incredible story," an interesting observation was made by one individual who suggested that being slapped by an octopus-wielding seal is not as uncommon as it may seem.

“Seals always do this!” they said. “You're just minding your own shit when they come up to you wielding an octopus and fuck you up for no reason. I don't get it.”

Another commenter, meanwhile, took a slightly more scathing analysis of the wildlife encounter.

“Nature doesn’t respect you,” they declared. “Stop treating nature like your playground like a fucking child and start tending to the needs of the planet you fucking dolt that’s obviously what the seal’s telling you.”

Continuing the narrative of remarkable wildlife encounters, the angling community and enthusiasts alike were still buzzing with excitement when another extraordinary fishing tale emerged. A British fisherman scored the catch of a lifetime when he reeled in a colossal gold-fish like carp which weighs as much as a 10-year-old kid on a recent fishing trip in France.

Angler Andy Hackett, 42, from Worcestershire, realised the nibble on his line was from a giant nicknamed The Carrot weighing over 67 pounds, 4 ounces.

It took him 25 minutes to reel in the fish, which is a hybrid species of a leather carp and a koi carp. However it was her bright orange scales that gave her away.

Hackett told BBC: “With normal fish, you struggle to see them if they’re just under the surface, but The Carrot is obviously bright orange so you can’t miss it."

"It’s a much sought-after fish, not many people have caught it, it’s quite elusive”.

Twenty years ago, the carp fishery released the carp known as The Carrot, and it has now become one of the largest in the world.

Hackett, 42, said of his catch: "I knew it was a big fish when it took my bait and went off side to side and up and down with it."

"Then it came to the surface 30 or 40 yards out and I saw that it was orange. It was brilliant to catch it but it was also sheer luck."

Fishery manager Jason Cowler added: "We put The Carrot in about 20 years ago as something different for the customers to fish for."

“Since then it has grown and grown but it doesn't often come out. It's not the biggest resident in the lake, but by far the most outstanding."

“She is in excellent health and condition and could even live for another 15 years or more. Long may her stardom continue. Congratulations to Andy on a great catch."
