Jerome Billingham packed laundry for a living when he tweeted Kim the innocent tweet.

Within a week, his 200 followers had surged by 20,000 and he now has more than half a million on his two Twitter accounts. His main account gets six million views a month.

Jerome has utilized this follower boost by promoting high street companies and E4, earning him a cool £5,000 per year.

Jerome says:

I was doing a 6 am shift at my work in a factory and I’d seen she’d tweeted something, I can’t even remember what she tweeted now, but I just replied to ask if she ever noticed her fans.

I didn’t think anything of it and was walking to work and then my phone just started going ping ping ping and going crazy.

I thought: ‘What the hell’s happened?’ and actually wondered if there had been a technological fault with my phone but then I saw hundreds and thousands of replies saying: ‘Congratulations, well-done son’.

He said:

People need to realize that to keep up on social media I have to keep up with daily tweets. Tweet what’s trending, tweet what people in the world are talking about.

If not I start to lose followers. People think it’s just quick, easy tweeting but in fact, sometimes it can be very hard and pressure from my followers sometimes can be immense.

Now excited for what’s coming next, Jerome told UNILAD:

The whole thing has opened a lot of doors for me if I’m honest I’m just excited to see the next chapter of my life. I did a live radio phone call on an American radio station Mytalk 107.1 the other day which was really cool

Since this has all come out my phone has been none stop for the past couple of days. It’s funny to see the people who claim to dislike you, send you a request on Facebook or Instagram!

Jerome now works for Haven Holidays but he hopes to turn his social media activities into a full-time career in the future. It certainly sounds like he’s taking the right steps in order to do so – wishing him all the best.
