We all approach mealtime differently. Both what we eat and how we eat differs from person to person and family to family. But then there are unusual cases like these here. from eating only roadkill to having strange dinner guests, these families are very different and have some bizarre habits when it comes to eating dinner.
#1 Just Grazing
Our first entry is not actually a family, but an entire congregation of a church in South Africa. If you ever find yourself in the town of Garankuwa, don't be alarmed if you see people crawling around on the grass grazing like cattle. Instead of bread and wine these church members go outside and fill up on grass and weeds.
#2 100% Beef
Doctors warn us that we need a balanced diet to keep our bodies healthy. They tell us to limit their intake on red meats and to eat as much fruit and vegetables as possible. But for the last 17 years, the Anderson family of four has eaten nothing but beef. They are all on a no carb, 100% red meat diet and take no vitamins or supplements. They only drink water at room temperature. It's a bizarre diet and costs the family upwards of $1,700 per month in grocery bills.
#3 Roadkill Cuisine
A lot of people eat animals, like deer, or rabbits that they hunt, but for the Hunt family in England, going out for dinner means riding around looking for dead wild animals on the side of the road. Yep, they eat roadkill like the Beverly Hillbillies. You've heard that people eat deer that they themselves have hit, but what about squirrels or badgers? They take them home and clean them up for dinner even if they are already infested with maggots. The entire family takes part in butchering and cooking the roadkill feasts.
#4 Vampire Cuisine
A lot of us enjoy a nice glass of wine either when we get home from a long day at work or just sitting at the table for dinner. Lia Benninghoff and Aro Draven enjoy a tall glass of red stuff as well, but it'snot wine. It's human blood! Once every week, normally with Friday's dinner, the two consume each other's blood because they believe they are vampires. And yes, that is what vampires are supposed to do. But what meal goes well with blood? The strange couple prefers a nice cut of raw and blood dripping beef.
#5 That's Not 2%
Everyone has an opinion on whether or not breastfeeding is good for babies or if doing it in public is okay or not. Well, when people head over to the Klass family home, they likely think twice when asked if they take anything in their coffee or tea. The Klass family drinks only breast milk, and you might not be getting the stuff that comes from a cow if you choose to ask for creamer. When they don't have any breast milk produced at home they purchase it online.
#6 Unbearable
This one is not so much about what this family eats, but the company they keep at dinner time. The Panteleenko family always pulls up a chair for their 300-pound, 7-foot tall bear named Stepan. Stepan apparently has amazing table manners and even enjoys sitting down for a spot of tea with his very large daily meals which even includes morning porridge and cream.
#7 Dumpster Garbage
You've heard of vegans, but have you heard of freegans? These are people who survive by dumpster diving at local supermarkets. They live off the massive amounts of perfectly good food that is tossed out by the grocery stores every single day. The Soto family in St. Augustine Florida stock both their freezer and refrigerator with all sorts of food and produce that comes from local dumpsters. There is often so much good food just thrown out that they can't even consume it all before they have to toss it away.
#8 Roadtrip
One fun part about heading out on a long family road trip is stopping at all the different types of diners and restaurants along the way. These family vacations are a great way to discover new foods and have fun with a little local cuisine wherever you're headed.
#9 Living Off The Land
But in the case of Patrick Jones and wife Meg Ulman and their children, a road trip means eating something really different than what you might expect. During a 14 month, 600-mile journey, this family decided to live off the land, literally. Not stopping at any restaurants or food establishments at all, they lived off of weeds, berries, plants, and any fish they could catch along the way. The family dog ran along with them and ate roadkill when he was hungry.
