Florida Man Arrested After Trying To Outrun Authorities On Lawnmower
A Florida man who earlier this year escaped from deputies by sneaking into a swamp was apprehended on Saturday after attempting to escape them on a riding lawnmower, according to authorities.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office reported that Dusty Mobley, 40, was found at 9:30 a.m. at a residence on Pasco Broxson Circle in Holt.
He was sought after in connection with the January theft of a boat worth $40,000.
The sheriff's office claims that when Mobley saw the deputies, he put a John Deere riding lawnmower "into high gear" and attempted to flee the area.
Mobley was tased by chasing officers and then shortly captured.
Deputies reported that when Mobley was brought into custody, they discovered him to have a revolver, a key for the handcuffs, and a pipe that may have contained meth residue.
Deputies claimed to have discovered Mobley on board the stolen boat a few days after the January heist.
He jumped overboard into the marsh as they attempted to talk to him, and then he vanished.
Investigators think Mobley cut a hole in the side of a metal building belonging to a company near Highway 4 in Baker to take the vessel.
In addition to other allegations, Mobley is accused of grand theft, grand theft of a vehicle, felony criminal mischief, two counts of resisting an officer, possession of a hidden firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed handcuff key, possession of drug paraphernalia, and felony refusal to appear.
