The plane wreckage was discovered on Wednesday night in Florida’s Everglades. The plane had been missing for four days after taking off for an unauthorized trip from a local flight school. The lone occupant of the Cessna 152 was the unidentified pilot. WPLG, a local news station, was heading to the crash site when they spotted the grisly scene.

Helicopter footage showed a body lying in the swampy lands next to the plane wreckage while an alligator waded nearby. Peter Burke, WPLG's managing editor tweeted: “A gator appears to be chewing on a body next to the wreckage.” The FAA and NTSB have launched an investigation into the incident.

Local law enforcement says that the scene of the crash was found on Wednesday around 9.30pm. The small plane is registered to Air Christian Inc. wich is located in Miami.

WPLG reported that the same plane was forced to land on a Florida highway in an emergency back in December 2015. It is unclear if the pilot during that incident is the same pilot who perished in this week's deadly crash.
