Debra says that this is the only thing that will help her get through her first Christmas without her mother. "People might think I’m mad or that it’s not a very respectful thing to do but I just can’t stop myself. I feel like she can live on by being inside of me because if she is part of me she can breathe through my body. My breath is her breath."

"Before I knew what I was doing they were in my mouth and the chalky, salty taste was comforting. I felt confused by what I had done to begin with but the feeling of comfort and closeness it brought was the first bit of solace I'd had since her death."

With Christmas right around the corner, Debra wants to move from tasting her mother on her finger to tasting her on a little spoon. Debra wants Doreen to be a part of the celebration this Christmas and is planning to have a photo of her mom propped up on the dinner table.

This all sounds a bit too strange for us, but we wish Debra the best this holiday season. We hear that she is planning on getting married next year, and she knows that her mom is happy for her to find any way to get over her death and move on with her life. Best of luck!
