This is the box found during a remodel of a home.

I love this story because we all would secretly love to find a treasure. Admit it, you have had a desire to become rich in your lifetime. Why else would the lottery exsist? Blame it what you want, but America's desire to stumble upon wealth has always been there. And sometimes it happens when it's least expected.

In this story, these lucky men got the surprise of their life while remodeling a family home, built in the late 40s. Branik12 had finished remodeling the first two floors when he went to finish the basement. That is where he found a strange looking green box in the ceiling. When he opened the box, there were newspapers and...

Let's start from the beginning. This is the lucky basement. He first noticed some writing and drawings on a few of the walls. "Nothing too special here," he wrote. Branik12 wondered if they were swastikas but really didn't know what to make of the drawings.

This is the ceiling where the box was found.

Before they opened it, they grabbed the banana for scale...you know - for pictures sake.

The anticipation was crazy. It could be everything they've ever needed or it could be nothing what so ever.

"I took the box outside and gathered the wife. It has something inside, but not heavy like coins or gold bars. Might get lucky though. Could be old sports cards?"

The box was lined with newspaper. With the date of March 25, 1951 on the newspaper, we can only assume that this is around the same time that the box was stashed.

The contents were wrapped in wax paper or something similar for protection. Newspaper was used to line the bottom of the box, which is a piece of history in itself.

And finally, what we've all been anticpating... they opened it and it was COLD HARD CASH! Three beautiful stacks of it. Lucky Lucky Lucky!

One pile is all twenties, adding up to a couple thousand. "We are freaking out at this point," he notes. "This doesn't happen to us! What do we do? Where are the cameras?"

The second pile was all fifties, adding up to around $5000. The third pile is all hundreds. These bills are so old that they almost look foreign. They are are dated 1928-1934.

But wait! You're not going to believe this...but they found TWO more boxes!

After discovering the first box they didn't go back until a week later to finish the basement. And again, he was freaking out, and who can blame him?

He said that this box was twice as heavy as the first one, which was exciting because he sees cash on the side of the box through the vent.

He ripped the ceiling apart to make sure there weren't any other boxes. These are definitely was the last ones.

He waited for his wife to come home to open up the boxes.

The second box was filled with mostly twenties. How beautiful is this?

All boxes included, they found a grand total of $45k. Not bad for a week of work! Kinda makes me want to go rip my ceilings apart.

When dealing with large amounts of money, many questions have came up! The original poster was nice enough to answer a few of them already. He indeed spoke with an estate lawyer just to make sure that the cash now belonged to them. They also had some of the bills appraised. Some of the bills are worth 4x the face value.

Branik12 had this to say about finding this money...

"We are generally good people," he wrote. "We try to help other when we can. General acts of kindness go a long ways. I however don't believe in karma."
