He Put 6 Poles In The Ground, And The End Results Are Stunning
#1 The Backyard
A Reddit user who uses the name 'My_DIY_Account' decided he needed some green space near his Milwaukee home so he built his own patio in his tiny backyard that allows him tons of privacy and room for relaxation outdoors.
#2 A DIY Project
Working with only a few square yards of free space beside his house he could have made it into a parking space but instead went to work building his own private oasis. First, he started with six 4x4s Douglas fir posts that he cemented vertically into the ground.
#3 Venetian Blinds Effect
The posts became the start for a fence. He then installed Venetian blinds styled planks to allow for privacy instead of just strips of wood. This would allow him to see out without his neighbors seeing in, and the moveable blinds allowed for a breeze to pass through easily.
#4 The Fence
The fence was built using entirely cedar wood on the horizontal slats while the initial 4x4s posts were also covered. He then finished the initial fence off by covering the wood with a dark waterproof stain called, Waterlox.
#5 A Blockade
The design of the moveable slats once stained provided a beautiful blockade from peering neighbors and could be adjusted for weather or lighting.
#6 Building A Deck
He could have stopped with his amazing fence, which already gave the backyard a major improvement, but decided he would take it a bit further than originally planned. He opted to add a patio deck beside the fence. He then dug trenches for the decking blocks, to secure the deck flooring and keep it sturdy and strong.
#7 He Started With The Foundation
Making sure everything was even and would hold weight he started building the foundation of the deck with additional 4x4s, then laid the deck boards on top. He was worried that the flooring may not hold up but reports that he has had 20 people on the deck and the foundation and structure is sound and safe.
#8 Finishing The Yard
After he stained the porch with the waterproofing, he went on to finish the yard area around the actual porch. He planned to finish the project as a surprise for his wife and he was limited for time, but the finished product...
#9 The Finished Patio And Fencing
The entire project, including the porch, fence, and sidewalk only cost him $1,500. He purchased some outdoor patio furniture to finish off the deck and planted some vines that will flourish around the fence next year.
#10 His Wife And Dog Loved It
His wife was surprised and amazed at what he had done with such a small and useless space, but the happiest of all was the dog, who now has a permanent napping spot.
