"Society of the Snow" is described by many as 'one of the most harrowing and incredible' things they've seen, due to its faithful representation of events that unfolded over 50 years ago.

The tragic true story began on October 13, 1972, when a plane traveling from Montevideo, Uruguay, to Santiago, Chile, met with disaster in the Andes mountain range.

The search and rescue operations initially focused on the wrong area due to the plane's misreported last known location.

After eight days, the official search was called off, leaving the survivors stranded.

Out of the 45 individuals aboard, only 16 survived.

"Society of the Snow" not only narrates their story of survival but also digs into the psychological impact of their choices, particularly the agonizing decision to practice cannibalism as a means to avoid starvation.

The film is now available for streaming on Netflix, offering viewers a detailed and emotionally charged glimpse into one of history's most incredible survival stories.
