The modern world is constantly evolving. For example, technology has become so advanced that we can easily speak to loved ones, in real time, even if they are on the other side of the world. Technological advances impact everything from our working lives to our overall health. But, there are some modern trends that are quite disturbing. They may even suggest that society has gone a bit overboard now that we can do just about anything. Some places have decided that everyday utensils are obsolete, and they have come up with some really bizarre replacements.
Horrifying Hipster Restaurants. You Will Never Guess What They Use Instead Of Plates
Cocktail in a rock
Yes, we know it is hard to believe that any restaurant would serve their drinks inside of a rock. Thankfully, they did at least provide a straw so that the customer could drink their concoction. I don't know about the rest of you, but I prefer to be able to see my drink.
Ravioli on a clothesline
The great thing about ravioli is that you can normally enjoy eating more than one at a time. You can forget all about that at this restaurant who serves them on a clothesline. Unclipping your pasta is extra work that no one should have to do while trying to enjoy a meal.
Desert on an image of a plate on an iPad
We are not quite sure where this restaurant is going with the idea of serving their food on iPads with images of plates on the screen. I may not be a technology expert, but I am pretty sure that iPads are not meant to go through a dishwasher, so how do they keep these clean?
A parma mouse?!
Yes, there is a plate here, but the image is absolutely terrifying. I get wanting to jazz up a plate, but this one might give people nightmares.
Spare a thought for the dishwashers
The main reason people use plates is that ceramic does not absorb anything, so they are easy to clean and sanitize. Can you imagine the number of bacteria lurking inside these wood planks that this restaurant uses instead of plates?
Whoever managed to put this together deserves a medal
While I find this display to be interesting and fun to see, I could not imagine how long it took to get everything in its proper place to keep this display balanced. I can almost guarantee that when your food got to the table looking like this, that the food would be cold. How else could a pizza hold all of its toppings while positioned like this?
A meringue on a levitating pillow
Who comes up with this stuff? I don't know about the rest of you, but I prefer to have my dessert served on a plate instead of some weirdo concoction like this one.
Can you imagine the devastation you’d feel if this fell apart?!
The reason that plates are so great is that they make it so there is plenty of room to eat your food without it falling on the table or the floor. The odds of successfully eating a dessert like this without mishap are very low.
A raspberry sorbet served in a rock
There are just some foods that should not be messed with, and this is one of them. This one doesn't even need a plate, but why would they serve it a rock. It just seems over the top to me.
Even kitchen sinks are better than plates. Apparently.
It really makes you wonder where some of these restaurants picked up their plate alternatives. It is strange enough that food is not being served on conventional plates, but who comes up with the ideas for these other serving systems? And, why would you want to eat out of a sink?
This works if you were trying to teach kids how to count
Where's the food? Is it just me or are these portions toddler sized? Maybe restaurants are serving their food like this to cover the fact that they are shortchanging their customers on portion sizes.
Modes of transportation can be used as plates too!
It looks like some restaurants are just grabbing random items from the local trash dump and turning them into plates in order to save a buck. I nice floral plate would have made these desserts look a lot more appealing.
Dinner on a bin lid
While dumpster diving is frowned upon, it looks like this restaurant is trying to normalize eating from trash bins. Only a hipster restaurant would serve their food in trash bin lids.
A pint of trifle, anyone?!
Trifles are normally served in clear glass bowls before being served on individual plates. We can only hope that this woman was given a spoon to help her eat her pint. But hey! At least you can have as many pints of trifle as you want!
Cocktails in lightbulbs
Lightbulbs were not made to be containers, and they are super easy to break. It amazes me that they were able to fill these bulbs without breaking them. It is one thing to be a hipster, but it is a whole other thing when you are putting people at risk.
Plates weren’t even necessary here
Then, there are the foods that don't even need a plate. These little cupcakes are wrapped in paper for a reason, so they could be served that way. Putting them inside a martini glass is just adding extra dishes that nobody wants to actually wash.
