When one thinks about X-Men, you might instantly think about Wolverine's massive biceps or Mystique's super toned belly. A young version of Professor Charles Xavier rarely is the vision that first pops into your mind. Maybe you have too much respect for the young man, or maybe he never ripped his shirt simply by flexing his torso. He is the brains, not the brawn, therefore he lacks the real sex appeal than some of the other characters from this franchise have.
It is not that James McAvoy is unattractive. He certainly does the job for me, but most go for the more muscular types that you see of the other X-Men. There has been massive support for the Scottish actor who will be the next James Bond after Daniel Craig announced he will not be taking on the role, although, rumor has it that he will be back for one final movie.
Even though McAvoy is the epitome of tall, dark, and handsome, many are questioning the choice to have him play James Bond because of his slight frame. Well, not exactly "tall" as he is only 5'7", but you would probably not have known that until I just said it. They wondered if he would be able to fill the beefy tuxedo that Craig filled so perfectly. Many were skeptical, but there really is no need to question McAvoy's potential. Recently, he was spotted showcasing his new physique.
McAvoy has not been moved by his critics at all. In fact, he has said, "I’m five foot seven, and I’ve got pasty white skin. I don’t think I’m ugly, don’t get me wrong, but I’m not your classic lead man, Brad Pitt guy." But, all of that is about to change now that he is rocking his much larger physique in preparation for the 'Split' sequel.
His role as Professor X may have made him a household name, but he has done other movies like 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe,' 'Atonement,' and the animated movie 'Gnomeo and Juliet.' His role in the 2016 movie, 'Split,' demanded that he bulk up his body.
McAvoy is hardly recognizable in his most recent photographs as he is preparing for the sequel to his hit movie 'Split', 'Glass.' He says, "I’m pretty healthy. I’m in fairly good shape most of the time." But, good shape was not enough when he landed the role for 'Split.'
"I Googled, ‘Good way to put on muscle quick’," McAvoy says. "Then I went to a gym and did it myself. It was a power-lifting routine called 5×5. You do five different exercises four or five times a week – huge, big exercises. It’s super-simple but works every muscle." He also says that he ate between 5,000 and 6,000 calories every day. Instead of eating two eggs for breakfast, he would eat eight, then he would eat a chicken breast as a snack, then have two chicken breasts for lunch, then a steak as a snack, and finally, he would eat two salmon steaks for dinner. Talk about a high protein diet.
He was able to bulk up in a short period of time. McAvoy, who has been vocal about his distaste for exercising, is clearly willing to do anything that puts his acting career first. "I like playing sport, and I like doing physical stuff," he said. "I like hiking and I like climbing and I like playing sport. I do a lot."
"But I don’t like the term ‘exercising.’ I feel like with sport, you’re playing games. But with exercise, you’re literally just trying to stop yourself from dying too young. It’s weird."
