Jobs are terrible and bosses are worse. Finding a good one can feel like looking for a needle in a haystack. More often than not, however, you end up with someone like this who will call you out only to tell you that you were sitting for too long.

u/hestolemysmile won the hearts of the internet when they uploaded a short but intense conversation with their boss where they quit their job in epic fashion.

It started when OP, with an injured foot, had to sit down for the majority of their shift, having cleared it with a manager at their workplace.

Later, however, they received a message from their boss where they asked why OP was sitting on a stool for the majority of their shift. They found this out after reviewing the cameras for the day.

If sending the message over something like this wasn’t bad enough, the boss also said that they expected OP to show up and discuss it in person before their next shift and that their actions were ‘unacceptable'.

This is when OP replied and decided the only way to handle this was to go nuclear and we, along with the internet loved every little second of it.

They started by clarifying that they had in fact cleared the stool situation with their lead and were only sitting because they had broken their left foot in two places.

They also pointed out that although they were sitting, they had hit the best performance rates for the day and that instead of recognising their excellent performance and the fact they went above and beyond while nursing an injury, their boss had decided to text them about sitting down.

But bosses need to boss and taking a classic line from the a-hole boss handbook, they said, “I’m not really appreciating your attitude.”

The second winner in the text was, “This type of behaviour isn’t going to get you anywhere here.”

OP however was on a roll and empty threats like these were not about to stop them from this journey of wreckage that they had initiated. Casualty: 1, the boss.

“Hey, thanks for wasting my precious off time with some garbage you didn’t bother to investigate beforehand.” *Chef’s kiss*

They reiterated their frustration with not being appreciated for their excellent performance and said that it was no wonders people kept leaving. With a final flourish, they said that they no longer wanted to be part of this toxic environment and said, “I won’t be in tomorrow or ever again.”

The boss then suddenly changed their tune and said, “We don’t need to rush to you leaving.” On the contrary, sir, we do.

This simple exchange suddenly blew up on Reddit, getting multiple awards and hitting the front page.

In a follow-up post, OP clarified that they worked in a packing warehouse and that they had taken steps to manage their budget in light of their new employment situation.

They already started applying to work at several places and decided to take a week off and because OP continues to impress, they’ve decided to take that time to clean their local park.

They also declined any financial help from people that offered and were surprised that people were in fact also offering them jobs on the platform.

Commenters were already living vicariously through OP and applauded their courage for not taking this sort of abuse.

"Proud of you! Your response to that ridiculous manager was outstanding. I especially love that you called them out for texting you during your free time rather than doing even a little investigating on their end."

Some also questioned how any manager could stop people from sitting when they themselves were sitting on high-end chairs without doing any manual labour.

"They were not sitting on a stool. They were sitting on a $3000 executive office chair. With lumbar support."

As epic as the (virtual) walkout was, OP was still sad to have left the job as they liked the work that they did.

What was more unfortunate however were the many stories that came out with similar stories.

This Redditor shared how they were demoted and people fired just for getting chairs for employees to sit on, even though this one thing had improved numbers significantly.
