James Franco admits to the sexual misconduct allegations after four years in a podcast. When asked that why he didn't admit to these allegations four years earlier when they were first made, Franco said he thought that it was not the right time. When further asked why he didn't consider the power imbalance when committing these acts, Franco admitted that at that time he was not clear-headed and thought that if it is consensual it is okay.
James Franco Admits Sleeping With Students From His Acting School, Says It Was 'Consensual'
The famous Hollywood actor James Franco admits to sleeping with students after facing nearly four years of sexual misconduct allegations.
In January 2018, Franco was facing sexual misconduct accusations from five women, four of whom were former students. The women claimed that the Spider-Man actor exhibited inappropriate sexual behavior.
Two of his former students even pursued legal action against the actor following the allegations.
The lawsuit was filed against Franco and four of his partners at Playhouse West Studio 4 school, who were accused of being involved in "widespread inappropriate and sexually charged behavior."
Reportedly, the group capitalized on their power as a teacher and employers by promising roles in their projects.
Franco, however, defended himself, saying that the accusations were not accurate. However, earlier this year, it was reported that he had paid $2.23 m as a settlement for the lawsuit.
Only recently in an interview, Franco admitted that he slept with students at the school. In his lawsuit, it is mentioned that during the admissions. he referred to 'sex scenes' as a master class.
According to the lawsuit, he "intimidated [students] into performing gratuitous sex scenes." However, he claims that the class was on "contemporary romance" and not "sex scenes."
However, Franco now realizes that the class had a provocative title.
As per the podcast, Franco claimed to never have slept with any student in that particular class, however, he did sleep with students during his job as a teacher at the school, which he admits was "wrong."
The actor claimed that getting a chance to sleep with students was not really the reason he started teaching. As a matter of fact, he didn't even choose the students which clearly shows that meeting and sleeping with the students was not part of a "master plan."
Franco says that when the incidents happened he was not really 'clear-headed' and thought that if the sexual encounters were consensual then there was nothing really wrong with it. But he sees things differently now.
Talking about the reason why he didn't speak out on the allegations earlier, the actor stated that he didn't think it was the right time. Following the allegations, many people were upset with him, and he needed to listen.
Making the revelation on the podcast, Franco has been recovering from sex addiction since 2016. And claims that after the accusations were made against him, he made a lot of effort.
