A tenant shared a video on her Twitter where her landlord was complaining about the ‘filthy’ state of the apartment when it clearly shows that the place was left spotless.
Landlord Shows ‘Filthy’ Apartment On Camera When It’s Actually Spotless.
When @VoteforHani moved out she was certain that she had done her due diligence cleaning up the place. Her landlord however seemed to have a different view and claimed that she had left the place ‘filthy’.
i hate landlords. please watch as mine pretends our absolutely spotless flat is filthy. pic.twitter.com/C74jJmYEj3

Hani asked him for evidence saying, “If you could take some pictures of dirty things.”
She added that she was the one recording while the landlord pointed out the dirty spots to her.
The landlord gestures to cupboards and appliances and says. “All and the surfaces need to be clean, and the windows.”
It’s clear that he is complaining in an effort to charge her a large cleaning fee. Hani captioned the video, “I hate landlords. Please watch as mine pretends our absolutely spotless flat is filthy.”
She showed more of the apartment in a follow-up video where she adds, “Everything is immaculate and in full working order! and she had the nerve to say she needs to deduct fees for the place not being clean! who do I write to?! [sic]”

She further added, “Last month [the landlord] was asking if we could extend our contract because she didn’t think she would find tenants to keep it as tidy as us.”
but last month she was asking if we could extend our contract because she didn’t think she would find tenants to keep it as tidy as us 🤡

With many people relating to Hani, there was much discussion regarding the rights of tenants and the ability of landlords to get away with such behaviour.
"This is a common tactic of “bill extortionate unnecessary cleaning fees to a sham company” (which landlord probably owns/is in partnership with) who then do nothing/very little cleaning for a fraction of the cost they took from the deposit.
Call them out and they backtrack:"

Others warned her of the same thing.
"She’s gonna try to skin you for £300+ and will likely spend nothing/maybe £50 cleaning it.
Do not let them take a penny off your deposit.
The above agent took £160 to “clean the garden”, but a few months later when we were walking past - the garden was exactly how we’d left it."

"mine gave us a dirty flat that we had to spend hours cleaning the first day and then tried to make us pay for a professional cleaning service when we left 😭 they're charlatans."

This landlord chimed in to say that he wished his tenants left places that clean.
"As an "amateur" landlord, I would love to receive a property back in that condition. Most tenants leave in a reason state of cleanliness but we always assume that it will need cleaning in between, but factor that into the rental costs, not deducted from the deposit."
