Life Was Great Before Everything Started To Suck

#1 Remember The Good Ole Days? What Happened?

So many things that were simply accepted decades ago would be taboo, shunned, or shocking if done and allowed today. You can blame it on technology or political correctness, but the facts are that with growth comes change. Now not everything that changes is good, or helps, or makes everyone's life better. Some things we can no longer enjoy, that we took for granted just a decade ago, are now No-No's in society. Good or bad, here are some of the things from our past we used to be able to do without feeling like law breakers. You may remember some from your childhood.

#2 If you did this, you were probably born before 1990, and things were so awesome. The convenience of the date, time, and temperature at any given point of the day was just a phone call away.

#3 Some kids got to take a spin in the Dad's truck on country roads and learn to drive without anyone blinking an eye. If you did it and never got caught, it was a great bonding experience.

#4 Sure you would have missed the pleasure of being patted down by security or having your luggage strewn about, but you could arrive at your departure gate just minutes before boarding, and your significant other could come to the ramp and say goodbye.

#5 The only thing I remember anyone being allergic to was bees. And that kid carried around an allergy pen just 'in case' he was stung. Our mom's brought us cupcakes for snack during break time.

#6 Sure a few kids got hurt on those monkey bars... climbing like Spiderman and showing off, but did they really have to abolish swings and carousels? Those cuts and scrapes made you stronger.

#7 We even were allowed to play with real wood burning sets, that could leave permanent scars. We had engraving pens, oven's that cooked food with a 200 watt bulb, test tubes, and even baked our own plastic designs in the real oven... yet here we are.

#8 Nobody got hurt, cut, shot, stabbed, threatened with a weapon at school. You always felt safe, and if not, they had drills where you would hide under your desks that would make everything better in an emergency.

#9 If you were swearing down on the corner, or hanging out with the gang smoking a cigarette, any neighbor was allowed to kick you butt, and your parents were thankful they intervened. Good times.

#10 It was all fun and games until the 1990's when someone lost an eye. Dodgeball was that game you may recall where everyone who wanted to beat your ass all week was allowed to throw hard rubber balls at your head during gym class.

#11 We never knew why some of us turned to drinking as teens, until it hit us... Our parents were giving us alcohol and cough syrup to ease our pain and to put us to sleep. In their defense, most every product back then contained alcohol, and all our cold medication had pseudoephedrine in it.

#12 Cowboys and Indians was a favorite childhood passtime, and shootouts could be seen on TV in the Western's regularly. And those Native American's never made a peep about being called 'Indians' or 'Red Skins'.

#13 We had to walk uphill half a mile to school, back down at noon for lunch (they never served lunch in school until around the mid 70's), back uphill an hour later for the afternoon session, then another trip back home at 3 PM. We didn't have buses because our schools were in our neighborhoods.

#14 When you paid for a flight it was expensive for the time and people demanded to get what they paid for. Real meals you could order from a menu, and silverware, and drinks of all types. You could carry on extra bags and bring as much luggage as you desired, and it was included in the fare! Nobody worried about being cut with a blade or blown up.

#15 As long as you were within shouting distance of your mother then you were safe. Going 'outside to play' was how we spent our free time, and nobody carried a smart phone with them to keep in constant contact with our Mommy's.

#16 They sold candy cigarettes and advertised them on TV. Smoking was cool. All the celebs were doing it in the movies, on the cover of the magazines, and on our living room televisions. Our parents fell for it and started being as hip as the Hollywood spokespeople. But hey, those candy smokes, PURE SUGAR! Yummy!

#17 It was illegal, yes, and no.. People back in the day would drink and drive like it was just fine. Nobody got pulled over in a DUI check point, because the cops were busy directing traffic on Main Street. And guess what, nobody wore a seat belt either. They didn't become a fixture mandated by the government until 1968, and there were no laws about use of them until about 1984.

#18 It wasn't out of the ordinary to see kids running around in diapers or naked in public places. They were kids. Nobody worried that they might become internet stars on some pervert's web page. Sicko's!
