People from all over the world leave their families behind to find new opportunities in foreign countries. It is a chance to provide a better future for themselves and their loved ones. Unfortunately, not every nation has laws that protects workers in the service industry like maids, taxi drivers, and labourers.
In countries like the Middle East, employers promise good pay cheques, benefits, and opportunities lacking in developed countries like Singapore, Pakistan, India, and Philippines. What these helpless migrant workers find is a life of indentured services where they are overworked, underfed, and with their pay often withheld or not paid in full.
Domestic workers have been found to be sexually, physically and emotionally abused by their employers in an ongoing basis. One woman working in Bahrain found herself in the middle of a scandal. Now her future lies in the hand of authorities in a country that is not her own.
A 32-year-old woman worked for a family in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The woman was about to return to her native Singapore and leave her employment in the Persian Gulf.
Her employers have a 13-year-old son who was supposed to be under her care.
Part of her work included helping the teen with his school assignments. Instead she started having sex with him.
The domestic worker found out she was pregnant. She chose to hide her pregnancy.
She wanted to avoid having to explain who the father of the baby was.
#3 Premature Baby
She just needed to return to Indonesia to give birth to her baby.
She was not full term yet so she assumed she had enough time to return to Singapore.
One day the woman went into labor in one of her employer's bathroom.
It was a premature birth but she delivered a healthy baby boy.

Her employers took her to the nearest hospital where the father of the child was revealed. The woman claims the 13-year-old had raped her. After further investigation, the domestic worker admitted the relationship was consensual.
She was sentenced to one year in prison. Still, the teen's lawyer is appealing the sentence. The boy's family wants a tougher sentence. They claim the woman seduced their son and he did not understand what was happening.
It is unclear who is telling the truth here. As foreigners have very little to no rights in Middle Eastern countries. It is not known who is raising the baby at this point. The court has also not communicated if the woman will be given her baby when she completes her sentences.
Here's an animated video from TomoNews explaining what happened.
