Originally belonging from the country Mali, the once undocumented struggling man trying to build his dream life in France is now hailed as a hero and is a proud new citizen of France.
22-year-old Mamoudou Gassama has now become a hero after he saved a dangling baby from the fourth story of the house.
The incident happened when Mamoudou was walking home from the famous Gare du Nord railway station and came across a panicked crowd looking towards a building helplessly. Above them, a 4-year old kid was dangling from the building and any moment now if his hand slipped, he could meet his death.
Knowing very well what could unfold if he didn't take action, Mamoudou immediately got into action and in a matter of few moments to the crowd's amazement, the man turned into a real-life spiderman.
“I did not think of the floors, I did not think of the risk,” he said. “I did it because it’s a child. I really like children.” Mamoudou said.
For his act of bravery, Mamoudou received a personal ‘merci’ from President Macron. The young man also got congratulations from the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, who posted on Twitter: “Congratulations to Mamoudou Gassama for his brave act that helped save a child’s life last night. I had the pleasure to talk with him today by phone, to thank him warmly.”
Mamoudou act of bravery has not only won the hearts of French people but it has also helped him pave way for his future in the country. “He explained to me that he arrived from Mali a few months ago while dreaming of building his life here,” Hidalgo also explained. “I replied that his heroic gesture is an example for all citizens and that the City of Paris will obviously be keen to support him in his efforts to settle in France.”
