This woman was left surprised after a trip to the toilet with intense stomach cramps resulted in the birth of a child. After their initial shock was subsided, the couple is now over the moon and claims that they wouldn't exchange their surprise baby for anything in the world.
A bizarre incident reported where a woman didn't know she was pregnant for 9 whole months till she gave birth in a toilet.
Melissa Surgecoff, from Massachusetts in the US, started to experience intense pain and stomach cramps while she was at home on March 8.
Seeing his partner in struggle, Surgecoff's fiancé Donnie Campbell immediately contacted 911, as he feared that she may be having a kidney stone issue.
Speaking to Today, the woman said: "The only relief I would get was sitting on the toilet.
"So I was in the bathroom, and I... couldn't sit still. I was screaming, I was trying not to be loud. Like, I didn't know what this was."
Surgecoff says she then felt 'something rush out of her'.
"I look in the toilet and I still didn't know what it was," she said.
"And I thought I basically lost an organ because I didn't know!"
In an interview NBC Boston,he said that initially, she thought that she lost an organ or something and also thought that the baby was that 'a giant dookie' - which is referred to as slang for poo. However, he realized that it was probably too big to be a poo.
He continued: "We were just kind of in shock and not expecting it, and all the sudden there's a baby in the toilet."
As per local media, despite the newborn receiving no prenatal care, the child is doing great and only spent one night at home before being discharged to go home with his parents.
Surgecoff, the surprised mom reveals that she had no idea that she was pregnant all this time and attributed her weight gain and irregular cycle to a change in medication.
She told the news outlet: "We thought it was medication because I had just changed to a new multiple sclerosis medication and that was one of the symptoms, gaining weight."
Reportedly the couple was due to get married last year however the wedding was delayed which also delayed their plans for starting a family.
Surgecoff said: "We always wanted our ducks in a row, we wanted to get married, we wanted to move out, we wanted to have the right jobs."
However, after the shock of being sudden parents have subsided the couple says they are absolutely over the moon over the arrival of their surprise baby.
The new mum said: "Yeah, it's amazing now, so I wouldn't change it for anything."
