The myth of the Virgin is about to be blown to pieces! They definitely didn't teach this in Sex Ed.
Mind-Blowing Lies About Virginity Everyone Needs To Know!
#1 They did it all for the Nookie!
We all heard it, guys just want to lose the V-card. Nope, it's not all guys. I wanted to get this one out first since most virgin myths about women. Guys want the whole shebang just as often as women do. Some only want to loose it because of the pressure on them to be "manly" and not be "pussies" but more often than not. They just really like the person they're with. In fact, after sex a lot of guys claimed they were depressed after giving their virginity to a girl they discovered did not care about them. Over a quarter of American men reported feeling this way. Fathers often tell me the boys who feel bad after losing their virginity are whiners, sissies or homosexuals. It is no wonder they suffer in silence. It's time to break the taboo about male virginity so boys can talk about the topic without ridicule. It's not healthy to assume boys are basking in the joy of easy to get sex. Nor is it healthy to assume all boys can't wait to shed their virginity to just any girl.
This leads to a whole different myth. It will be a monumental event that changes everything. Guess what, it doesn't. The only thing that changes you is your experiences and how you deal with them All that emotional baggage that comes into play with sex is changing your outlook on life. You don't automatically fall in love with the person. You don't have to be in love to have sex.
#2 The hymen is going to break!
Ummm... not really. The big misconception here is that the hymen is all the same in all women. Hymens come in all different shapes and sizes. Most of the time, they don't even cover the entire vaginal opening, so menstrual blood can still leave the body. If they do cover the entire vaginal opening, a doctor will need to correct that to make both menstruation and intercourse less painful. The tissues that make up the hymen's ring are stretchy. They, like all membranes, can bend and tear according to the pressure put on them, or simply stretch to accommodate it. "Breaking" your hymen isn't a good way to say it at all. "Tearing," while also not an all-encompassing term, is a good stand-in.
Guess what! This leads to another myth that's bs! Someone can tell if you're a virgin. Ha! Just Ha! Not so. Not even a doctor can tell if you are a virgin by looking at your hymen/how big your vagina is. There is only one comprehensive test a doctor can do to tell if you're a virgin.
Doctor: Are you a virgin?
You: Yes/No.
That's it. That's the only way. You don't have a "Seal pops if fresh," lid on your cervix.
#3 The BLOOD! A real virgin is going to bleed!
Look back up there. Let's take what we know into account and put that into practise. Hey, if that's too hard, though, here's some more to say on how wrong this myth is. Fewer than half of all women bleed during the first time they have sex. Experiences vary from individual to individual and depend on factors like lubrication and arousal. Even if it's torn, unless there's some MAJOR trauma, there is no flood. The only way that virgin is going to bleed all over is if Aunty Flo is visiting!
#4 Here's the biggest lie ever!
The first time is GOING to hurt! Nope. Not if it's done right! Most of the pain during a girl's first time having penetrative sex can usually be boiled down to two culprits: nerves and inadequate preparation. It's a lack of relaxation and arousal that makes it hurt. Many women don't hurt at all. 63 percent of girls in one study reporting no pain at all. Think about that. If your girl is hurting after the first time (without that being the intent) then you didn't do it right.
#5 These myths really don't hurt anyone. It's not important!
... Yeah, that's some wishful thinking on everyone's part. These myths persist in part because of a lack of information about what happens to the human body, specifically the hymen, during sex. Lots of women are just terrified of having sex because they think it's going to be this horrible pain and they'll bleed gallons of blood. Genres of pornography fetishize virginity and frequently depict the moment innocent school girls are "corrupted." Hymenoplasties, or controversial surgeries that "reconstruct" the hymen to induce bleeding during sex as proof of virginity, have become an established practice around the world (stories about the trend have appeared in Time magazine and The New York Times, which, it's worth noting, called the hymen "the vaginal membrane that normally breaks in the first act of intercourse" in its reporting).
Male partners' expectations of blood in particular sometimes leads women to take drastic, unhealthy measures. Women do still get killed over others' perceptions of their own virginity: In 2005, an Alabama woman told a Birmingham police detective she killed her 12-year-old daughter by pouring bleach down her throat because her daughter revealed she was no longer a virgin. Soak that in. That's not some country in the Mid-east stoning a woman to death or forcing her to marry the rapist that "sullied" her. That is happening right now by the way. That's good old America. How many girls do you know of who are bullied or called sluts for openly enjoying something most people enjoy in private? It's not right.
