Every year, the team at TasteAtlas takes on the big job of making lists that show the best and worst dishes from around the world.

Last Tuesday, July 16, the site looked at 335,106 ratings from TasteAtlas users to find the 100 dishes that people liked the least in 2024.

Some of these dishes include devilled kidneys, sweet potato pudding, and even Marmite on toast, which made it into the top 50 least liked foods.

In contrast, jellied eels ranked eighth, the high-calorie Luther burger was seventh, and Thai Fish Entrails Sour Curry came in at sixth place.

We know you’re curious, so below we’ve listed the five dishes that got the worst ratings on TasteAtlas.

But remember, these rankings are just opinions and shouldn’t be the only factor in deciding if you’ll like a dish or not.

5. Yerushalmi Kugel

Originated in the Jerusalem District of Israel in the 1700s, Yerushalmi Kugel remains a popular dish for Shabbat and various Jewish holidays.

This savory casserole features thin cooked noodles or angel hair pasta coated in caramelized sugar.

Eggs, neutral oil, black pepper, and kosher salt are added to the mixture before baking the Yerushalmi Kugel in the oven.

4. Chlebová polévka (Czech bread soup)

Another classic dish that seems to have garnered little favor among users is Czech bread soup.

According to the site, this traditional dish is typically homemade and prepared using stale bread, water, onions, and a variety of spices.

However, some places enhance the soup by adding meat, cheese, and noodles, while others take it a step further by serving the soup inside a hollowed-out loaf of bread.

3. Bocadillo de sardinas

TasteAtlas users have strong feelings against the humble sardine sandwich, ranking it as the worst sandwich/wrap globally and the most disliked Spanish dish.

This classic sandwich features a Spanish-style baguette sliced lengthwise and filled with canned sardines.

Eaters often enhance it with ingredients like peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, boiled eggs, sautéed vegetables, and olive oil for added flavor.

Despite its low rating of just 1.9 stars, one user has praised the bocadillo de sardinas as an 'underrated' snack.

So maybe don’t dismiss it until you’ve given it a try, right?

2. Hákarl

How about trying some fermented shark for a starter?

Arguably Iceland’s most famous dish, hákarl is a national delicacy made from cured Greenland shark flesh.

This unique dish involves fermenting the meat for up to three months, followed by hanging it to dry for an additional four or five months.

Once ready, the hákarl is cubed and served on toothpicks, often accompanied by a shot of local spirit called brennivin.

However, despite its cultural significance, hákarl hasn’t won over many fans and is currently the second lowest-rated dish on the website.
