Demi Minor was transferred from the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility to the Garden State Youth Correctional Facility in June. She is serving a 30-year sentence for brutally killing her former foster father.

Minor, 27, claims that while being moved to GSCF, guards misgendered her, physically assaulted her, and even put her on suicide watch after she attempted to kill herself.

Minor stated in a post on her Justice 4 Demi blog that she was pointed out by correctional officials, with one of them making fun of her when she sought to have a woman perform a strip search. She stated in a different post that she was battered during the move.

She said that while she was temporarily detained in the New Jersey State Prison, officers repeatedly called her "a he."

In April, the New Jersey Department of Corrections disclosed that Minor had caused the pregnancies of two other inmates at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility. This brought attention to Minor's case.

The prisoner said that while she was permitted to keep her makeup, she knew using it "is a death wish."

'I have accepted that I am in a male facility, but I have not accepted nor will I ever agree to or accept that I am anything other than a woman who happens to be transgender,' Minor wrote.

In a scathing blog post, Minor accused guards of mistreating her and threatening her.

On one occasion, one guard told her, 'I don't give a f*** what you do ….there is no camera here ... everyone here is man including you,' Minor alleged.

'[The department of corrections] has violated my right to be safe and free from sexual harassment, by putting me in one of the most violent youth Correctional facilities,' Minor wrote.

'While living here at GYSC, I have found my self under attack by young inmates who are immature and just plain ignorant towards a person like me.'

Minor said that her expulsion from Edna Mahan resulted from the events occurring more than two months earlier.

'They have violated my right to be safe and free from sexual harassment, by putting me in one of the most violent youth correctional facilities,' she alleged.'

She said: 'On Saturday, I was in medication line when a inmate cut in front of me, and said ''I am not standing behind no fag'.' The inmate th[e]n spit directly in my direction.'

She claimed that the DOC had done irreparable psychological harm to her by subjecting her to such triggering events.

'I don't know what its like to live as a man, and I refuse to ever revert back to such habits or behavior,' Minor wrote.

Minor also expressed dissatisfaction about the lack of TV, air conditioning, and the facility's prohibition of LGBTQ organizations or video visits.

' ... yet they said that I am here for safety no please understand that I am here for punishment, just the sad part is this punishment may kill me,' Minor complained.

'Mentally I have not been myself and I am losing my essence. The Demi, who wants to wear make-up and hangout with her friends is not permitted here.

Following a lawsuit filed by a prisoner and the ACLU, the 800-inmate Mahan facility began detaining transgender women – even those who had yet to have gender reassignment surgery – last year. It presently has 27 transgender inmates.

According to a source acquainted with the jail, cell doors are left open during leisure time, allowing convicts to sneak into each other's cells or slip into a restroom for quickie sex.

Minor was just 16 years old when she broke into Theotis Butts' house in Gloucester Township, New Jersey.

Butts had taken her in as a foster child, but according to an NJ.com story, Minor was no longer living with him at the time.

She stabbed Butts, 69, numerous times before fleeing to New York and being apprehended.

She was also found guilty of carjacking. She approached a couple with their baby boy in their Pontiac Grand Prix and aimed a Glock.45 in the woman's face. Minor sped away with their infant before the couple could get it out of the car.

Minor began transitioning into a woman in 2020 and was moved to Mahan from the male jail system.

Minor has attempted to rebuild her life during her imprisonment, serving as a jailhouse lawyer, speaking for other inmates, and representing her unit on the inmate liaison committee.
