Nanny Abduct A Baby From Her Employers 26 Years Ago, Admits Her Crime Later

A former nanny in China recently confessed to abducting a boy from her employers in Chongqing and raising him as her own son for the past 26 years.

Xiaopin of Nanchong in southwest China’s Sichuan Province had lost two of her children to infancy. She was told by the village elders that she might never have children of her own but could raise one from another family.

Back in 1992, Armed with fake IDs, Xiaopin went to the city of Chongqing to work as a nanny.

She found a job at a family with a 1-year-old baby boy. Three days later, Xiaopin stole her employers’ baby and ran back home. She made the child assume her second baby’s identity, naming him as Liu Jinxin.

After giving birth to a daughter in 1995, she thought about returning the boy that she had kidnapped.

However, she was too afraid of going to jail at the time. On August 18, 2017, the 48-year-old He who now lives in Nanchong, southwest China’s Sichuan Province, confessed to local police that she had kidnapped a boy from Chongqing and raised him as her son since 1992.

Local police said they are investigating the incident, but they are unable to open a criminal case based solely on the suspect’s claim.

Recently, she contacted the Chongqing Evening News, hoping to spread the word about her search for the biological parents of her son and her quest for atonement. Xiaopin finally told Jinxin the truth but the young man didn’t really believe her and just went on to his job at Guangzhou.

"I never thought she was not my mom as she was so good to me," said Liu to Chongqing Evening News. "I don’t really care if they can find my biological parents or not."

Why the family did not call the police when their boy was missing remains a mystery.

She said she will keep trying to find the family and will go to jail once she finds the parents.

According to the 1979 criminal law, while the crime is punishable by a 5-year jail sentence, there is also a 5-year limit for such charges.

This means that even if she was found guilty by the court, she wouldn’t serve her sentence.
