This paramedic made a series of depressing TikTok videos from the POV of covid patients before they pass away. The videos were made to tell people how difficult dealing with covid is and the impact it has on patients and their families.
Paramedic Shows What Last Moments Of COVID Patients Look Like
A viral video showing the POV of covid patients that are going through their final moments after contracting COVID 19.
The video was posted by @KristineKapow who is a paramedic and physician’s assistant. The video shows them talking a patient through a conversation as they go through their final moments.
The main process featured in the video is that of intubation where a patient requires a tube because they can no longer breathe on their own. It entails the insertion of a tube into the oesophagus.
She starts the video by saying,
“My name is Kristina, I’m one of the providers working with your doctor today. I know you guys talked earlier about maybe needing a breathing tube if it’s gotten too bad, too quick, and unfortunately, we’re there, OK? I’m gonna be the one putting a tube in. I hate that I have to meet you like this, but I didn’t have a chance to make it into the room earlier; we have a lot of COVID patients here tonight.”
The text overlay is shown to indicate what a potential patient might say if they were in that situation. “I’m scared”, it reads.
To that she responds, “I know it sounds scary, but we’re going to sedate you, put the tube in, and help your lungs move air a bit better. Right now they’re really struggling to work, really struggling to move any air, and that’s not good for you, OK? I went ahead and talked to your family, they know all about it, and they’re not going to be surprised if they see you like that, OK?”
Further overlay text from the hypothetical patient reads, “It’s hard to breathe.” And “What’s that noise?”
“I know it’s hard to breathe right now, I know. Don’t mind those noises, it just means that we have work to do, and we need to do it, OK? We’re going to take care of you, I promise.”
The last text overlay shows the patient saying, “I don’t want to die.”
“I understand, I understand. I know you want to live, I know. We’re going to do everything we can, I promise,” she responds.
The video has some mixed responses considering its vivid depiction of reality. OP addressed the claims that it was fear-mongering by saying, “This isn’t fear-mongering when it’s your daily reality. This isn’t to scare you— it’s to share as close as real COVID patient interaction as I can.”
They also added in the comments that they did not mean to spark a political debate but simply wanted to get the message across of how important it is to get vaccinated.
One patient that went through the same thing shared their experience.
Kristine also said how they were scared of posting the video but felt it was important to reveal the reality of these moments to people.
They also urged people to go vaccinate.
People were scared that another surge would once again put doctors through the same terrifying cycle.
