In a country where 8.2 million people were arrested on marijuana charges between 2001 and 2010, you'd think the United States would be just as tough on drugs that are actually harmful...like cocaine. Especially on two parents who ended up feeding it to their 4-month-old baby.

But in a court decision that has shocked many, Krystin and Somchai Lisaius, former TV personalities from Tuscon, Arizona, will serve no jail time after taking cocaine and then transferring it to their child via breastmilk.

On May 15th, Krystin and Somchai rushed their 4-month-old baby to the emergency room and said that the child had been "wabbly," and her "eyes were rolling into the back of her head." The couple refused to let two separate hospitals take blood samples from the child, but a urine test found cocaine in the baby's body.

Authorities were called and determined that the couple had a party the night before. Krystin Lisaius told police that she believed the cocaine would be out of her system because 12 hours had passed.

After their arrest, the couple was quickly fired from their positions at local news stations. But in a plea bargain announced on Monday, charges of child abuse and drug possession, carrying a two-year sentence, were dropped.

The couple instead pleaded guilty to child endangerment and were sentenced to one year of probation. They also had their 30-day jail terms suspended. Their lawyer was able to negotiate the deal because the baby's pediatrician reported the child suffered no injury and is meeting all development standards.

Somchai Lisaiu told the court:

"I just want to apologize for putting us, for putting our family in this terrible position. I know we made a mistake I know that we are the ones solely responsible. We learned the greatest lesson of our life, and I assure you from the bottom of my heart, this will never ever repeat."

Their attorney told reporters "we all make mistakes."
