Money. It's something we all want and need. But some people don't know hot to organize or save it for a rainy day. In fact, a lot of people act as though it is burning a hole in their pocket and spend so much they end up in debt forever. Some people still believe that the one with the most "stuff" wins in the end. But newsflash, you can't take it with you.
People Who Abused Their Money-Spending Privileges
#1 A Useless App
This is hard to believe, but EIGHT people actually abused their right to hold onto their own money in 2008 when they purchased a new iPhone app. The app, developed by Armin Heinrich, did absolutely nothing and cost $999.99. Apparently, the developers created it as a joke and it was supposed to be a status symbol for those who wanted to tell others they were 'rich'.
#2 Justin Timberlake's Leftovers
This is filed under the 'WTF' category. Back in the day, Kathy Summers, a crazed *NSYNC fan, paid $1,025 for Justin Timberlake's leftover French toast on eBay. Wonder how that is holding up?
#3 Diamond Cover Puppy Bath
Pet owners often treat their animals better than people. They often want their pets to live in the lap of luxury. So it might not be that surprising that Lori Gardiner came up with a diamond bathtub for puppies in 2014. Available at a price of $39,000, the bathtub is encrusted with 45,000 Swarovski crystals. So far the company has sold 50 of the bathtubs, and not one was sold to a person who was considered wealthy.
#4 A Solid Gold Bathroom
When you have money to flush down the toilet, you might as well make the toilet bejeweled solid gold. Jeweler Lam Sai-wing wanted his bathroom at the Hang Fung Gold Technology Company, so he came up with the idea of a solid gold toilet for the showroom in Hong Kong.
#5 Sharon Stone's Kiss
For real? In August 2003, Sharon Stone´s fan Joni Rimm paid $50,000 for a kiss with her idol at a fundraiser for a children's hospital. Probably the most expensive kiss in history, the smooch lasted 45 seconds and it was, according to the onlookers, quite passionate. Well, that's fifty grand wasted.
#6 Giant Pokémon
A Singapore man wanted to make his wife happy for her birthday and knew she loved Pokemon. He knew anything to do with Pokemon was expensive so he just purchased three Snorlax plushies without reading the description or the price. Instead of receiving three cuddle plush Snorlax that his wife could cozy up with, he got three humongous stuffed animals that took over the entire room. Oh, and when he got his credit card statement he found out that he had spent $6,000 on the gigantic toys. Nice birthday!
#7 A Dog Tuxedo
A county worker in Hot Springs, Arkansas, with the privilege to use the county's credit card went on a spending spree. An investigation turned up several elaborate purchases she had made using the credit card, including football tickets and a tuxedo for her dog.
#8 A Luxury Car Demolition
A man who was very angry that he had been sold a lemon from a Maserati dealership, and got no assistance from the main auto maker's headquarters, decided to pay people to demolish the Maserati outside the Qingdao International Auto Show. He was trying to let the company know that the Chinese people were not going to settle for garbage, even though that's what they sell to the world. That car? It was worth about $500,000.
#9 Ian Usher´s Life
After a heartbreaking divorce in 2008, the Australian was sick of his life so he decided to start over and sell his old life including all his possession, house and even his job in an auction. An unknown bidder bought his life for more than $300,000. Usher used the money to purchase a deserted island in the Caribbean where he has been living a happy life since then.
#10 Diamond Hoodie
Produced by Konquest, this diamond-studded hoodie costs $10,000. They only manufactured two, and they were both purchased by a man in San Diego, California in 2014. Who said casual clothes can't be luxurious?
#11 Gold Shirt
Pankaj Parakh, an Indian textile magnate, had a custom-made pure gold shirt worth $213,000 for his 45th birthday. The shirt, made entirely out of 18-22 karat gold, weighed 9 pounds (more than 4 kg). He only wore it for an hour because it was too heavy and warm. He sold it to someone on eBay for only $73,000. That's a steal!
#12 Too Many Hamburgers
We're not sure if this is abuse of money or abuse of a drive-thru, but when a McDonald's in Tampa, Florida had a special promotion of ten-cent hamburgers and 20-cent cheeseburgers, they got more than they bargained for. A man went through the drive-thru and ordered 120 hamburgers for himself since there was no limit on the amount you could purchase. Let's hope he passed them out to homeless folks. But why hold up the drive-thru?
