People make mistakes. Some are pretty huge. The people we're talking about accidentally gave things away that they probably wish they hadn't have done. Free airfare anyone? How about a free car?
People Who Gave Away Stuff They Probably Shouldn't Have
#1 Police Officer Gives Away Woman's Dog
When police officer C.D. Ivey of Orlando, Florida, found a stray puppy wandering around the streets on New Years Eve in 1998, she did what she thought was best for the dog. She tried to take it to the Humane Society but found out the shelter was closed for the long Holiday weekend. Trina Caporal, who lost the precious terrier mix named Sassy Girl, was in tears when she found out what happened next. Apparently, Sassy Girl had no collar or ID tags on because she had just been given a bath and slipped out through a side door. With no identification and the Humane Society closed, officer Ivey, not knowing the protocol, gave the dog to a couple in a passing Ford Mustang who said they would take care of her. Luckily, after posting hundreds of 'Lost Dog' signs in the area, someone recognized Sassy Girl and she was finally reunited with Caporal three weeks later.
#2 'Price Is Right' Model Accidentally Gives Away A Car
Andrea finally got the dream of a lifetime, to be in the studio for a taping of the popular game show The Price Is Right. Her dreams were further imagined as she was called down to participate in a challenge, which she won, and got to go on the stage for a big game with host Drew Carey. Carey gave her three chances to correctly select the price of a Hyundai Sonata. Her very first guess was incorrect. However, before she could even utter a second guess, the spokesmodel, Manuela Arbelaez, accidentally pulled away the tile to reveal the true prize. Andrea screamed out, "I won it!" But Arbelaez hid behind the game board in embarrassment because she knew had just messed up big time. They gave Andrea the car and Manuela got put on leave for a few weeks. They didn't fire her.
#3 Price Chopper Employee Chops Prices To FREE
She would have friends come into the store and buy their groceries and then take no cash from them for payment. Customers at a Saugerties, NY Price Chopper got an unexpected discount when employee Jennifer Litts decided she would give stuff away. She pretended to scan the merchandise and then bagged it without taking any money or taking a few dollars for the purchases. It was later revealed that she would accept money from the 'customers' after her shift. When police arrested her at the store and took her in for processing, she was found with needles and over $1,200 worth of heroin in her possession. How did she get caught? One of her customers complained because she charged him five dollars for his $300 worth of items and his friend didn't get charged anything at all.
#4 Woman Tries To Give Away A FREE Baby
She's clean and sober now, but she will never get her child back again. Arizona resident Rozenna Luna came up to strangers at a Phoenix, Arizona gas station and told them she could no longer take care of her baby and offered it to them for free. They told her to take it to a hospital but she just walked around asking people in cars if they wanted her baby girl. A cashier called the police, and the child was briefly taken into state custody before being returned to the father in Nevada. Luna, who had been smoking methamphetamine, was given two years probation for the incident and ordered to stay away from the child until she is 18 years of age.
#5 United Airlines Employee Accidentally Gives Away Free Flights
It sounded like a Facebook scam, but it was indeed true. In September 2013, an employee error caused certain flights on the United Airlines website to register as $0 plus any applicable fees and taxes. Because of this, fares that were normally upwards of $800 could be had for just a few dollars to cover the fees. Naturally, word spread through social media like wildfire, and on Facebook, for 15 minutes, people all over the world took advantage of the goof before the site could be shut down and fixed. After much deliberation, United agreed to honor the tickets. The airline's Facebook page briefly mentioned a week after the incident that the mishap had cost the company 4,200 free flights. Fly the friendly skies!
#6 He Gave Away #3,000 Worth Of Free Drinks At IHOP
When police came to arrest Brooklyn, NY resident William Powell, he called himself a "modern-day Robin Hood" for giving away $3,000 of free drinks to customers at the International House of Pancakes (IHOP) where he worked. He told the arresting officers that he had been giving area kids and homeless people coffee, soda, and sometimes even treats, for free. He claimed that he gave the freebies to those customers he thought couldn't afford it. His boss, however, was not amused and had him charged with grand larceny. The judge appreciated his efforts and only sentenced him with 10 months probation.
#7 EA Gives Away Codes For Free Video Games
Video game giant EA wanted to thank its customers. So in October 2012 they created a customer survey that was attached to every sales slip with a code for downloading a free $20 video game from their website. Seems pretty good so far. Somebody goofed up, however, and the codes were not created very carefully. It only took techies a few hours to realize that they could use the code to get multiple free games from the company site. Of course, word quickly spread over the interwebs and thousands of people downloaded thousands of games before the loophole could be closed.
#8 He Offered Free Hugs And A Little More
Don't you just hate it when something says FREE but there are hidden charges? A man named Jermaine Himmelstein was walking around Times Square in NYC with a sign that said "Free Hugs," but apparently they weren't free at all. When tourist Violene Dauvios gave him a hug and snapped a pic, he immediately demanded a tip from her. When she refused and just walked away, Jermaine stalked her down the square and gave her a "bonus" free punch that knocked her over and resulted in a black eye. Jermaine has been arrested several times before for aggressive panhandling.

It was all in good fun. Youtube channel BREAK wanted to find out if people would accept drugs from a stranger. They went to the popular desert festival Coachella to give it a whirl. A girl named Katie fills an eyedropper bottle full of water and tells people the drug is "kinda like Molly." Not only do a dozen people willingly open their mouths, but several reported getting "high" even though it was just a prank.
