Kansas police officers arrived at Rachel Perez's home due to her being on the run for outstanding municipal warrants, but what they found while there shocked them to their very core. Police recall when first arriving the home had an "overwhelming odor of urine and feces."

Police took Rachel away to jail, not knowing her seven-year-old Govi Eastwood who suffered from down syndrome lived with her! It wasn't until his grandmother called the station to inform them he was still in the home. Returning to the home, they heard a faint noise coming from above their heads...

The abandoned boy was in the attic, tucked away in a tiny crawlspace, surrounded by exposed nails and broken beams. His bones were pushing out of his skin...he was starving to death. Court documents read, "The child was completely emaciated and had open wounds, feces and urine all over his body. It appeared as though the child hadn't eaten in days and most of his bones were visible."

Once taken to the hospital, it was discovered that Govi weighed 18.7 poundsless than the average 8-month-old baby. He wasn't potty trained, couldn't speak or barely walk. He would only sleep on the floor after being rescued, because that's what his body was used to.
It took months of emotional and physical therapy for Govi to get a breakthrough! He and his two siblings have now been adopted and taken in by their aunt and uncle, Stacy and Joe Eastwood.
