#1 Gingerbread Mansions and Masterpieces.

The Grove Park Inn in Asheville, North Carolina hosts some of the most beautiful gingerbread houses the world has to offer. The National Gingerbread House Competition began in 1993 and draws in sugar and spice from all over America. The above house won first place!

#2 And The Runner-Up

This house took the second place spot but was no less impressive.

#3 Logged Out.

Located on Redwood Highway in Garberville, California, this house was built by Arthur Johnson in the 1930s. Johnson ran a business building log cabins and this house is one of his beautiful creations made entirely of logs!

#4 Bottle House.

Built on Cap-Egmont in Prince Edward Island, Canada, this house is made entirely of glass bottles. Designer Eduourd Arsenault built the striking house in 1980, and it still stands today.

#5 Rollin' House.

A sightseer who lost his sight in an accident decided to build himself a house on wheels. Building the entire thing himself, he made the home a car and a house. He then took the home 50,000 miles across America.

#7 Spaceship House.

Located in Chattanooga, Tennessee this house resembles a flying saucer. It was sold in 2008 at an auction for $135,000. The house was built in 1970, shortly after the first Moon landing. Features of the house include square windows, directional lights, is perched on six landing gear legs and has a retractable staircase entrance

#8 Justo Rosito.

The house that took 25 years to build. Justo Rosito of Lino Bueno, Spain spent years carving his home out of solid rock. Using a common pick ax, Rosito created a seven bedroom home that includes shelves, benches, a fireplace and a kitchen! Everything is carved into the walls and from the stone. When the Spanish government heard of the home, they were so impressed they gave him five acres of land, a medal and a lifetime pension of one peseta a day.

#9 Floating Home.

R.G. Letourneau from Peoria, Illinois built a watertight steel house. When he was done, he towed the house to its destination across the Illinois River! The house is complete with a furnace, plumbing and furniture. Rather than sitting on a barge, the house floats on its own!

#10 Half and Half House.

When a tornado hit the town of Lorain, Ohio in 1928 it lifted the top story of this house and took it away. It didn't take the second story too far, though. In fact, it decided to drop it right beside its brother, the first story!

#11 Last House Standing.

Hurricane Ike hit the town of Gilchrist, Texas in 2008 devastating the land. Flattening everything in its path, except this one home. The house belonging to Warren and Pam Adams went untouched during the storm. The house was built on 14-foot-high wooden columns. The family had learned their lesson in 2005 when Hurricane Rota destroyed their home. This time they were prepared for when disaster decided to strike.
