Rezeda Ganiullina, 30, likened to Riot performers who were jailed for "hooliganism" after staging a "punk prayer" in a Moscow cathedral, now faces a probe by state investigators. She herself is a Muslim from the region of Tatarstan, is accused of showing disrespect to Islam with her "half-naked" writhing display some of it on the back of a camel in front of the four-year-old White Mosque in Bolgar, on the banks of the Volga River. Rezeda, an ethnic Tatar, has apologized for causing any offense but refused to withdraw her music video in spite of the fact that she received fierce criticisms from imams in this Muslim region.

The regional branch of the Investigation team, an equivalent of the FBI today opened a probe into whether she has violated any laws on religious freedom. "She is dancing an eastern dance in half transparent clothes in front of White mosque in Bolgar," said a statement. "Pre-investigative checks have been started." said Saidgeagfar Lutfullin, the imam of Zakabannaya mosque who also branded her a "stripper" even though she did not remove her revealing outfits.

"The video should be taken down by tomorrow," he demanded. "She should ask Allah to forgive her. "She was not only dancing in front of the mosque but also on its territory, that is desecration of Allah's house. "It's time for a woman of such a mature age to think about her faith, where she comes from, and her traditions, not to shake her nude parts in front of everyone." Failure to remove the video to "avoid the anger and punishment of Allah" would mean loyal Muslims seeking "protection from such insults and offenses".

He declared: "Warning to the stripper, immediately repent to Allah, and remove this video from social networks." Rustam Batrov, the deputy head mufti of Tatarstan, also denounced her. "A mosque is the house of the Almighty," he said. "It is not a strip club or a restaurant. She does not care about feeling of 1.5 million Muslim people." He stated: "The naked body of a women in front of the mosque is not in line with traditions of our nation.

"Unfortunately, some Tatar performers have some sort of mess in their heads. They don't understand what is a mosque and Islam in general." She accused her critics: "Everyone interprets a situation given their own depravity." Ganiullina said she offered "deep apologies to everyone who was insulted by my video" but added:: "Oriental dance, performed at its perfection, is a masterpiece. The dancer is not a stripper." "I apologize if this video hurt someone's feelings, but this is my stage image. "I'm also grateful to everyone for not being indifferent to my performance."
