Scientist Found Murdered At Apartment With Thumb Severed Which Killer Used To Access Her Phone

Ekaterina Antontseva, 34, a biochemist at the St. Petersburg Technological Institute, was murdered this week and it is thought that her killer used her severed thumb to access her phone. 


Law enforcement authorities said Antontseva was strangled or suffocated.


Her body was discovered by her boyfriend who is a construction entrepreneur and was away on a business trip.

Antontseva was a scientist and a part-time model. 


Police authorities have detained one a  male computer game fanatic identified only as Artyom, 36, on the suspect of murder. According to sources, Police found Antontsev'a severed thumb from his place. 


Authorities reveal the suspect used the fingerprint to gain access to her phone, from which he allegedly sent messages saying she was feeling ill and would not come to work.

Though the cause behind her death is unknown one theory suggests that the man owed Antontseva money and there was a fight over its repay. 


It is also believed that the man deleted the messages between him and Antontseva.


After her murder, the killer reportedly sealed Antontseva's apartment's gaps and windows so that the odor won't escape her home.

According to pdmnews.ru, Dr Mark Shamtsyan, head of the microbiological synthesis at the institute where Antontseva worked, said: "We all grieve very much. She was a very good person, very sympathetic.


"We all loved and respected her, and now it's hard to talk about it. This is all unexpected for us.
