Knowing if there are signs your body doesn't digest meat well can help you eat smart and feel more comfortable.

Being constipated means your bowel movements are tough or happen less often than normal. Almost everyone goes through it at some point.

Although it’s not usually serious, you'll feel much better when your body is back on track. The normal length of time between bowel movements varies widely from person to person. Some people have them three times a day. Others have them just a few times a week.

Going longer than 3 or more days without one, though, is usually too long. After 3 days, your poop gets harder and more difficult to pass. Constipation, in particular, is a result of high iron normally obtained from red meats (pork, lamb, or beef).


Constantly feeling hungry

If you feel hungry all the time even though you’ve just finished a meal, it can mean that you’ve been having too much protein. When you don’t have enough carbs, your body’s blood sugar goes down, and you don’t produce mood-regulating serotonin, the chemical that makes you feel hungry.


Dark circles underneath the eyes

Don’t get tricked into assuming that darkish circles underneath the eyes come from lack of sleep or tiredness. It seems that not digesting meat correctly can disrupt your magnificence routine. If you get them a lot (particularly the day after you eat meat), then it’s a signal that the meat was not digested.

Lack of Fiber

Suffering from poor digestion when you eat meat may stem from a lack of fiber in your diet. Fiber is a type of indigestible carbohydrate that sweeps through your digestive tract, relatively intact, pushing out waste and aiding in digestion. Next time you include meat in a meal, fill half of your plate with high-fiber steamed veggies, such as broccoli, green beans, spinach or Brussels sprouts. For optimal digestive health, the Linus Pauling Institute recommends that women have at least 25 grams and men 38 grams of fiber each day. Meat doesn't provide fiber, but veggies have approximately 3 grams per 1/2 cup cooked or 1 cup raw serving.


Lack of Energy

You may experience lack of energy and easy fatigability if you have a digestive problem that leads to significant malabsorption. Insufficient calories to meet your energy demands may be complicated vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Several vitamins aid in the metabolic production of energy, which slows when you have a deficiency. Digestive problems that lead to deficiencies of vitamin B-12, folate and iron cause anemia, which further contributes to your lack of energy.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

If you suffer from stomach pain or discomfort at least three times per month over a course of several months, you may have irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). This common digestive problem affects up to 15 percent of Americans. The signs of IBS vary, but they are typically caused by certain trigger foods like dairy, alcohol, beans, caffeine and gas-producing foods. Again, meat products are among the most difficult foods to digest because of the protein. It is just harder for our digestive system to break it down and thus leads to bloating. You may have hard stools one day and lose ones the next, or you may be constipated after one trigger food and have diarrhea after another.
