If you have trouble falling asleep fast at night, there is a really easy technique that you can try - and it takes almost no effort.
Sleep Expert Shares Secret Foot Hack That Gets You To Sleep Faster
The trick to falling asleep quickly, according to 'Sleep Geek' James Wilson, is to relax for an hour or two before going to bed.
Sure, you've undoubtedly heard it before, but he has a talent for making things happen, and it's something you can do while watching TV in the evening.
It's just as vital, according to Wilson, a sleep expert and co-founder of Beingwell, to let your body to relax first, which he claims improves sleep quality.
He suggests filling a hot water bottle halfway with lukewarm water and laying it on your bare feet while relaxing.
He stated to The Sun that it's a technique to change your core temperature, which is a key aspect of falling asleep.
Wilson said: “What that does is that it will raise your core temperature slightly. And then as you sweat a little bit, it will then drop your core temperature.
“Dropping core temperature is part of that process before we fall asleep. So it's kind of like saying to your body that you're ready for sleep now, and that helps the relaxation process.”
He claims that taking a bath or shower 'does the same thing' as using a hot water bottle, adding: “But if you haven’t got time for that, it's quite handy.”
“Particularly in the summer, it works really well.”
While it may be tempting to bring a warm, toasty hot water bottle to bed with you, Wilson cautioned that this is not a good idea.
This is because it may make your sleeping environment overly warm, he explained.
